Asaf... This is exactly my point. I do not think that I am more superior than any other human being on this blessed earth just because of where I was born! Have you ever heard of the words "all men are created equal"? Not all men die equal or live equal. But we are all born equal and should have equal opportunities. I am not a communist that believes all men are equal no matter what. But we all have different ambitions in life and there are some more intelligent and some who are willing to work harder than others. This is not predefined by race, religion or nationality.
Asaf... I am shocked at how Jews have your view and support Zionism! This is exactly how the nazis thought. They thought that the ayrian race was superior to all others and in particular the Jews and Slavs. This mentality that the Jews are chosen and superior to gentiles is the exact belief the facist and nazis had towards the Jews! Zionism has morphed from a movement to protect Jews and reunite them with the holy land, to full blown racist, fascism, That is comparable to south african apartheid. At the end of the day, they are on the wrong side of history... And only the israeli public can stop their inevitable self destruction. Good luck.
Phoenicienne... I do not label all Sunnis as such. I believe that many Sunnis do not agree with this cold war between Iran (Shiite) and ksa (sunni) which they are trying hard to have Lebanon as their battle field (chessboard). Just as all Shiites are not Iranian, so too, the Sunnis are not all wahabi. if Hezbollah is Iranian, Persian, fahiki, so too, with the same logic is mustaqbul, Saudi, wahabi.
Truth... If that were the case, I would condemn it with all my heart. I am not a defender of Iran. Rather why is iran evil but saudi arabia good? Why is saad hariri who is actually born and raised in ksa, who had never even been to lebanon before, more lebanese than hezbollah? Iran allows christains and jews to live and practice in peace without fear of persucution. In saudi arabia, swiss airlines is banned becoz of the cross on the tail. People are forbiden to even have a cross in their homes. Christians celbrate christmas by closing curtains in their homes so neighbors cant see their christmas trees. There isnt one church allowed outside "designated zones" or ghettos. As a christain, I would rather live in Iran than Saudi Arabia. My point is that, no one talks about ksa, but Iran is evil? We are all Lebanese and I reject the Sunni/shiia cold war being played in Lebanon. Who benefits from a middle eastern, religious civil/cold war?
Asaf... No, I do not care for all people's the same. For example, I care more for the Lebanese than the israelis.I care more for the ethiopians more than the French. I care more form the Zimbabweans more than the Germans. Not that I believe they are more important than the other. But I believe they need our care and help more than the other. The most powerful and rich countries care more for the Israelis than they care for the Palestinians. Why?Do they need their care more?Or is it more beneficial for them when the elections come around? However, unlike you,I do not think that one is more superior than the other.I believe, unlike the zionists that we all deserve equal opportunity in life, that all children deserve an education and health care.Unlike the Zionist government of Israel, that believes that the children of gaza do not deserve a primary school education and that the disabled do not deserve wheel chairs and that the general public do not deserve such advanced products as concrete!
400 soldiers and police do not get killed by peaceful democracy loving demonstrators. Almost every alawite and christain in syria is pro Assad regime, and most of the Sunni are the "opposition". Either two things will happen, 1 is that Assad makes honest reforms to share some power with the pm and introduces real multiparty politics that the Sunni opposition embraces and accepts. Or 2, only the end of the Assad, alawite (Shiite) regime, is acceptable to the demonstrators, replaced with Sunni government, which will result in full blown civil, sectarian fueled civil war that spills over to Lebanon and lasts for years.
Ithinkthere14iam... Bahrain has 70% Shiite population ruled by a Sunni king, that brutally supersede and killed their own real peaceful demonstrators, as only 2 police were killed out of the hundreds of civilians. Bahrain was invaded by Saudi Arabia to supress the Shiite opposition. Hariri then defended Bahrain against nasrallah's criticism of the invasion and apologized to king khalifa! The point is, what's happening in Syria this has little to do with democracy and reforms. This is purely sectarian civil war between saudi Arabia and Iran. Syria is a secular regime. There is no oppression of Sunnis because of religion. The vp and pm and army leaders and intelligence chiefs are Sunni. Rustom ghazali and Abdul khaddam,Sunni. If it were purly demos for rights, freedom and democracy than there would be more attempt for accepting proposed reforms and diologe.Every civil war inevitably spills over to the neighboring countries.this is No doubt, and Lebanon is primed for sectarian war already.
How pathetic. August 2001,was Mostly fpm activists and some kataeb. The kataeb is no longer represented in the m14 general secretary. Who will be represented that took part in the protests and were arrested? Maybe the ones who did the arresting? Elias murr? Hey fares? After the batrack mass at jamhour, and the chants, of Syria out, there were the protest in front of the justice ministry were Elias murr as interior minister sent in the thugs. As bob says, Rafic hariri was pm at the time. These leftovers of m14 are pathetic thieves who even stoop so low to try and steal history!
Bipartisan... You are very naive to think the "muslim brotherhood" will remember the christains of Lebanon. I would laugh it it weren't so sad.
These "brothers" should stay out of Lebanon. "the Syrian people will never compromise... In Lebanon, whether in tripoli, Beirut or Sidon..." really?
They are terrorist. Muslim fanatics that will turn Syria into a junior Saudi Arabia or best case scenario, an Egypt/Iraq were the christains are bombed and persecuted.
