Clinton Says Assad has 'Lost Legitimacy' and 'is Not Indispensable'

12 July 2011, 09:09

Mrs. Clinton, it is not you or your country who decides who has lost or gained legitimacy. It is not you or your country who decides what is right and what is wrong.

How can you have any credibility when you say Assad has no legitimacy but other rulers, such as the Gulf kings and emirs, have legitimacy, and you support them against their people?

Apparently, for the US administration legitimacy is subordination to Uncle Sam.

@allouchi: can you please ask the same person who coached Saad before his interview to help you a little in your manners and choice of words? I am sure Saad will pick up the bill on your behalf.

@ibnaljabal: the second "b" in your name is incorrect. Your name is ibn al jamal, isn't it? I saw you on what of my trips to Arabia where you were between kamels doing things we can't mention on this website.

@mabboud: Saad being Saudi is only one of his faults. Personally I don't have a problem with him holding a Saudi passport. The problem is his Saudi allegiance and political agenda. You can argue that his father has also a Saudi agenda, true, but Rafiq was a man capable of knowing right from wrong, had the best interest of Lebanon/Solidere in mind, and believed in a Lebanon for every Lebanese. Saad is the opposite. What amazed me the most today was to hear him talk about Lebanese unity, especially Shia-Sunni unity, when no one in the history of Lebanon or even the Arab World has used this weapon as much as he did when he was in power. As to Saniora, do you really mean what you say when you say he is more credible? I think you are one of those who live abroad and perhaps you were out of touch for some time periods when Saniora was in charge. Yes Saniora is smarter and more educated, but he is no more credible.
