The Internal Security Forces reportedly sacked two prison wardens at Roumieh after thorough investigations on charges of facilitating the smuggling of drugs into the facility.
According to al-Akhbar newspaper published on Thursday prison warden Colonel Gh.M. and block D previous warden lieutenant colonel S.M. were discharged from service and will have to face the military court that will try them.
Both wardens remain in custody.
Al-Akhbar newspaper reported that several other guards at Roumieh prison are expected to face the same fate.
In January, security forces took full control of Roumieh prison's block B after storming the overcrowded facility and seizing illegal items from Islamist prisoners.
Prisoners were all transferred to block D.
There were around 190 Fatah al-Islam prisoners at the notorious prison's block B, which was known as a virtual no-go zone for security forces, where prisoners had access to laptops, phones and money.
Sources told the daily that the visitors are now only allowed to bring inmates clothes and visit times have been limited to once per week for each prisoner.

- Lmaoooooooooooooo only in Lebanon is law enforcement not allowed in their prison... How do prisoners get access to these items?? How is the police/army unable to enter the block?? Do the prisoners have assault rifles? If they resist with knives, why not just eliminate them all (self-defence). I don't understand how the police/army can't enter...
We don't want these takfiri scumbags breaking out of prison and overrunning the Metn... Why aren't the LAF and Hezbollah coordinating on this issue... There should be jaysh and mou2awame up and down the entire tari2 l 7abes, from the top of Roumieh to Nahr el-Mot and even CityMall...
Hi nickjames
Don't be surprised or shocked. This is Lebanon where the unthinkable happens...lol
Sacks instead of jailing them for life? Is this our version of justice? sacking these two sods is by no means justice, it is justice denied, justice abused and justice insulted. What were such people doing, being payed by the tax payers money, to do what? Haven't they blatantly usurped their mandate and abused the trust and responsibility the state had rested on them? They should be jailed first then tried, and not the reverse as now seems the case, a clear and harsh example must be shown, only then will justice prevail. The Lebanese have now gotten used to double standards in the judicial system, the Lebanese will only begin to respect the law and the constitution only when the law becomes harsh. The Lebanese respects only a tough law and nothing else.
