Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri congratulated on Friday the Lebanese people and Muslims in general on the occasion of the Eid al-Adha, stressing the importance of solidarity with the Arab people who are striving for freedom.

He warned, in a statement, against attempts to avoid the implementation of the Arab initiative aimed at ending the Syrian crisis.

The initiative calls on the Syrian regime to halt its violent crackdown against anti-regime protestors and launch dialogue with the opposition.

Addressing local developments, Hariri demanded the unification of efforts to once again achieve national unity and emphasize the state’s authority over all Lebanese territory.

He called for meeting the people’s expectations in maintaining the country’s democratic system and coexistence among all its factions.

Furthermore, Hariri hoped that the Adha holiday would be an occasion for all Lebanese to look around and assess the situation of the country as a result of the rule of “the illegitimate arms and attempts to force Lebanon to become embroiled with regional axes.”
