1 killed, 7 hurt in Israeli strike on car in al-Sharqiyeh

An Israeli drone strike on Monday targeted a car in the southern town of al-Sharqiyeh in the Nabatiyeh district, killing one person and wounding seven others, the Health Ministry said.
Al-Arabiya’s Al-Hadath channel identified the person targeted as “Hezbollah commander Mohammad Ali Hadid,” saying he had survived a similar drone strike overnight in the Zefta area.
The National News Agency said three missiles were fired during the raid, which took place in a crowded area containing restaurants, grocery shops, a library and a butchery. Two other cars also went up in flames as the surrounding homes and shops sustained damages and shattered glass facades.
Later on Monday, an Israeli drone strike on a motorcycle in the border town of Aita al-Shaab killed one person.
Despite a November 2024 ceasefire with Hezbollah, Israel maintains troops in five areas in southern Lebanon and has kept up regular air strikes.
Israel usually says it is targeting Hezbollah militants and positions -- and has stepped up the attacks in recent days.
Hezbollah was badly weakened during the war, and the United States has intensified pressure on Lebanese authorities to disarm the group.
Hezbollah and its allies oppose the plan.
