The coastal Lebanese city of Batroun entered the Guinness Book of World Records on Sunday for the largest cup of lemonade with a capacity of 5,543 liters.

More than 400 people participated in squeezing around 2,200 kilos of lemons mixing them with 1,000 kilos of sugar, 3000 liters of water and 1,000 kilos of ice cubes, prepared according to the traditional and famous way in Batroun.

The participants’ efforts yielded 5,543 liters of lemonade poured into a cup with a base circumference of 140 centimeters, a height of 285 centimeters and a rim circumference of 185 centimeters.

The festival, which started at 10 a.m. Sunday, was attended by a number of political figures including Minister of Energy Jebran Bassil, Minister of Tourism Fadi Abboud, Minister of Foreign Affairs Adnan Mansour in addition to residents of the coastal city, members of the municipal council, and foreign diplomats.

The event was part of the Batroun International Festival and organized by the Batroun Merchants’ Association in coordination with the city’s municipality.

The process was monitored by a representative of Guinness, along with the deputy governor and the mayor.

At the end of the day, and after the competition results were announced, free lemonade was distributed in restaurants of the city, at the beaches and public places.

Why doesn't Bassil build the biggest electricity generator and then brag about it; why doesn't he do his job right?? I guess he meant to be a Lemonade stand kid, eh!

Thanks should go to the Mayor, who for the last 15 years, and on his own dime, managed to put Batroun on the world's map, and turn it into a tourism destination. This is about creating jobs and enhancing quality of life. Batroun would be a dead zone, if it wasn't for the Mayor's efforts.

Basil, as usual shows up to take credit for others' work. He could not get himself elected in Batroun, so he comes home every once in a while to remind the people how powerful he is thanks to his father-in-law and Hezballah's missiles. Well, just as long as he's fighting corruption.

Kudos to Batroun and its Mayor and congratulations on the entry into the Guinness book of world records!

With all due respect to all the celebrities at the event, can someone who took a picture of the "lemonade cup" post it.

With all due respect to the celebs in attendance, did anyone take a picture of the actual lemonade cup? I would be more interested in seeing that.
