Corruption scandals have reached the Lebanese embassy in Berlin as a report emerged to the surface on Wednesday that a gang is luring the Lebanese community in Germany to obtain the Lebanese nationality in return for large sums of money.

A report published in al-Joumhouria newspaper on Wednesday pointed out that the forgery is led by an employee at the embassy, who is deluding mainly married couples of Lebanese origin, that he can process their personal papers in exchange for an amount of money.

The newspaper said that several employees at the embassy and in Lebanon are covering up for the corruption scandal for personal interests.

According to the report, Lebanese Ambassador to Berlin Ramez Demachkieh has informed Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour about the fraud and took several measures against the employee, including a decision to end his service.

However, the foreign ministry failed to take any measures against the suspect and suspended the decision taken by the ambassador to fire him.

I guess everything that comes out of al-manar, otv and other m8-leaning media outlets should be viewed in same light.

@geha

was any goverment in lebanon, which was present before, better???
you are just looking for any reason to voice your political position, but before pointing the fingers at someone else make your homework!

Thumb geha 13 March 2013, 12:53

if there was irregularities previously it is not a reason that we tolerate irregularities now.
what you are saying is: sine there was irregularities this means this is normal, while it is definitely not especially coming from a cabinet that supposedly prides itself on being "pure"

@ geha

of course we shouldnt tolerate such things in general, but also it shouldnt be used for propaganda against your political opponent, thats why I asked you if any goverment before was any better. Also i dont think that one employee of this embassy was directly chosen by anyone of the goverment, he is just an employee, the report doesnt told us that it was the embassador...

I am discussing the cover up by the sinister of foreign affairs, instead of an action being taken.

r u communist? enough taxes.

Thumb benzona 13 March 2013, 12:36

Vat is fine, it's a form of tax that has been around for thousands of years when merchandise would enter a city's gates. But inheritance taxes are a shame, it's pure theft!

This employee should be compensated. At least they are lebanese who are getting their citizenship. I don't see the problem. Russia is granting them for anyone with big money. Now that is a smart move. The funny part in Lebanon, having the citizenship is a liability to the citizen not an asset.

i read these posts and i wonder why the hell anyone wants a Lebanese citizenship especially if you are paying for it ? I'm so glad to have got rid of mine when i did . there is so many opinions and non of them is in the interest of Lebanon , they are all self serving to one camp or another and the who;e country is going to hell sooner then later . there is so much divide and hate and distrust in each other to the point of no reason to even wanna live together . but yet i read about some idiot who wants to pay for a citizenship

Are you Caffrey or Armstrong?

I was wondering the same thing Neal. Why the hell would any German citizen want to have a Lebanese passport? but then again you need to check that the majority of those Lebanese in Germany are of Shiite origin and their votes are needed for elections!
FT will now jump up and ask how did I know that the majority are Shiite and do I have official statistics to prove this allegation .. .to which I say ... buzz off ... prove otherwise
