Saniora Urges Dialogue on Deploying Army on Border, Hizbullah's 'Return to the State'

Head of al-Mustaqbal bloc ex-PM Fouad Saniora on Tuesday called for launching national dialogue to discuss Hizbullah's withdrawal from Syria and the deployment of the army on the border between the two countries.

“Moderate and open dialogue is the way to confront problems in Lebanon, but reaching it requires an advanced stance and work,” Saniora said in a televised address.

Saniora Blames Arms for Lebanon's Slow Political Process

Al-Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc leader MP Fouad Saniora said Lebanon's political process was being slowed down by several obstacles including the use of arms by certain factions.

In remarks to Asharq al-Awsat newspaper published on Friday, Saniora said: “The slowness in the current political process in Lebanon goes back to (many) obstacles, the resort of some (parties) to weapons, and the attempt to use Lebanon as a forum to serve regional and international” policies.

Saniora Slams Hizbullah, Urges its Withdrawal from Syria to be Included in Cabinet Lineup

Head of al-Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc MP Fouad Saniora reiterated on Wednesday that Hizbullah should withdraw from the neighboring country Syria before it participates in any cabinet lineup.

“There are only two options either Hizbullah returns from Syria and we agree on a cabinet formation together or a non-political government would be formed and we resume the all-party talks,” Saniora said in comments published in the Kuwaiti al-Rai newspaper.
