UNIFIL: Lebanon Informed of Belgium's 'Routine' Withdrawal

Lebanese authorities have been informed that Belgium will withdraw its contingent from the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, the peacekeeping mission's spokesperson, Andrea Tenenti, said.

Tenenti told An Nahar newspaper published on Tuesday that the UNIFIL leadership was first informed about Belgium's decision by the Department of Peacekeeping Operations in New York.

One Palestinian was killed and two others injured Tuesday when a fuel truck exploded at the Kerem Shalom commercial crossing in southern Gaza, medics said.

Monday's violence began in Tel Aviv where a Palestinian teenager from the northern West Bank stabbed a 20-year-old soldier, leaving him in critical condition. The assailant fled but was arrested.
