U.N. Special Coordinator for Lebanon Derek Plumbly said the formation of a capable government facilitates the work of the United Nations in Lebanon.
In an interview with As Safir daily published on Thursday, Plumbly said it was up to the Lebanese to decide on the form of the new cabinet but it was “important to form a capable government as soon as possible.”

President Michel Suleiman hoped on Wednesday that parliamentary blocs and political leaders would heed the requests of the Economic Committees and exert efforts to form a new government.
“It is important for blocs and political leaders to hear this scream and be positive in their political work by exerting efforts to form an all-embracing cabinet in which everyone would assume his responsibility,” Suleiman told a visiting delegation of Economic Committees led by Adnan Kassar.

The newspaper said that his talks with President Michel Suleiman, Premier-designate Tammam Salam and members of the March 14 coalition culminated with the approval to form a 24-member in which March 14, March 8 and the centrists would get 8 ministers each.

Speaker Nabih Berri has expressed relief that his new “roadmap” to end Lebanon's political crisis had received positive reaction from the people but said it was still early for politicians to have their say on it.
In remarks to two newspapers published on Monday, Berri said: “I am very satisfied with the people's positive reaction.”

President Michel Suleiman called on Sunday for the resumption of national dialogue to agree on a defense strategy based on the Baabda Declaration and the vision he has proposed to bickering officials, a clear answer to Speaker Nabih Berri who a day earlier made a similar but wider initiative.
“We should form an all-embracing government as soon as possible and hold national dialogue to agree on a defense strategy based on the vision I have proposed and on the Baabda Declaration,” Suleiman said in a speech at his summer residence in Beiteddine on the anniversary of the creation of Greater Lebanon in 1920.

An al-Mustaqbal movement official criticized Speaker Nabih Berri on Saturday for allegedly ignoring U.N. Security Council resolution 1701 and “confiscating” the authorities of President Michel Suleiman.
In remarks to An Nahar daily published on Sunday, the official, who was not identified, said a speech made by Berri a day earlier had loopholes mainly over the legitimacy of the weapons of the army and the resistance in the South.

President Michel Suleiman on Thursday announced that the U.N. Security Council must take action concerning the reported chemical attacks in Syria.
“We condemn the use of chemical weapons in Syria, but the Security Council must take the appropriate measures in this regard,” Suleiman was quoted by MTV as saying.
