Mowaten... i often agree with you but this time I am a little shocked with your objections. President Bashir Gemayel to me is very similar to JFK! He wasn't appointed by Israel... in fact, he refused to make a peace agreement with Israel without the approval of the parliament. Yes, he allied with Israel against the PLO and Syria, which at the time wanted the destruction of Lebanon. Syria, believed Lebanon was the 16th Provence of Syria. The PLO, with Arafat as leader, declared the road to Jerusalem goes through Jounieh! The USA and Israel, wanted Lebanon to become new Palestine and the PLO and most of the Arab world want the battle against Israel to be faught in Lebanon, while Syria just believed Lebanon was the 16th Provence of Syria (just like china and Taiwan). Sheik Bashir was against all of them and so he was killed as a Patriot, hero of The Lebanon!
What do they expect President Aoun should say? The President is the leader of all Lebanese, not the stooge to the bedouins! We want a strong and free state, Hezbollah will eventually merge with the LAF but it will not happen under foreign threats, only through internal respect and solidarity.

I want to believe in him and hope he is real for the sake of Lebanon. Yes, for the 1st time in decades, we have a strong president that is supported by most Christians and Lebanese! Even those Christians that don't support him are at least happy that there is a real President with proper community suppport. All Lebanese can be assured that finally we have a President that will put the whole nation 1st, not just his masters. I hope that the PM Hariri will be a good partner. The Lebanon, after all the troubles and destruction from Israel and occupation and theft from Syria, still has a larger GDP then Jordan with 2m less population and without the 25% of population as refugees! GDP per capita of $10,000/lebanese person! This is impressive considering we have no effective government for over a decade, while being occupied and at war for more then 40 years! What would happen if we were free, like during the 60s? We would be stronger then the oil rich Bedouin nations! Forget about the oil and gas reserves of the med sea... It wouldn't be fair!
The establishment of a Senant is important, but should not be used as a weapon for sectarian policy! Bassil is the Foriegn Minister... he should refrain from comment unless its on foreign policy. All these cabinet ministers commentating on subjects that don't concern them is a problem. PM Hariri is the leader of the government and any member of his cabinet should refrain from commentating on issues that don't concern their ministry job!
