LoL... Everything that happened to Lebanon over the past 50years and we still have a country against all the odds and plots from Syria, ksa, Israel and the USA. I was to ask u if u remember Henry Kissinger asking president frangieh to transfer the Christians to Canada and let the Palestinians have Lebanon? But u wouldn't know that he responded by throwing an ashtray at his head! Despite it all, every mistake from our "leaders", despite all the deaths, assassinations and those that left... The bells will always ring in the mountains! Lebanon will always be the thorn in their new Middle East that splits the land into Jews, Sunni, Shiite and Kurd with the Christians allowed to visit through Zionist permission and "protection".
Glory to both Russia and Ukraine. True, the border lands and the mother country need to over come this unnatural division. Catholic and orthodox reconciliation are now also taking place.... There are not many other countries in the world that are split so evenly between the churches than Ukraine. Coincidence? Can pope Francis solve this one? The Russian orthodox believe they are the continuation of the Byzantine empire (Constantinople).
Not enough prisons can be built if it continues on this path. Too many desperate and hopeless Syrians, Palestinians and Lebanese that find refuge in these cash happy extremists... Too many young idiots willing to be heroes. Solution is Iran and ksa kissing and making peace. In Australia, the gov is already cancelling passports of those that support the black flag on social media or travel to Syria or Iraq. Funny thing is Israel and Palestine is no longer on the international radar.
I don't have hatred for any of my Lebanese brothers. I feel ashamed of our country for not educating the youth on what happened in the past. If you don't know what mistakes we made in the past, we can't learn from it and we are destined to repeat them. This is fact zeinabgahba. In the 1970s, Palestinians fought the LAF and they were supported by some sectarian misguided Sunni and Druze lebanese. Syrians got involved and next thing you know is its déjà vue. This is facts that you unfortunately don't know... This is my point!
True... Still remains that Ukraine and Russia are like Australia and New Zealand fighting. Unnatural conflict that should be peacefully resolved without NATO and the eu throwing fuel on the fire.
Have u heard the words "ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country"? You might think that these are from JFK.... But the truth is that they are the words of Khalil Gibran!
Christians leaving is the problem. Christians are the founding fathers of Lebanon. With out Christians there is no republic of Lebanon. But the point is not just about Christians... It's about no sect! Lebanon is not a country that France invented with the Maronites... It's always been special, different and independent. The ottomans knew it with fakhradin! The bible mentions it over 60 times. We speak differently and act differently. We are genetically different that has been proved by national geographic. http://genographic.nationalgeographic.com
Why hide from the facts? These are things to be proud of. We are Middle Eastern but not Arab. Lebanese from the levant. Descendants of the Phoenicians.
I took the national geographic geno test. It's completely anonymous. The results came back that I was 65% Mediterranean, 15% Northern European, 20% north Western Asian (Arabia Iran area). From that mix the guessed that I was either Lebanese or Sardinian. With Phoenician ancestry. Why can't we be proud of who we are?
It shouldn't matter our sect... We have a unique culture, language and food that many other nationalities would envy. Instead we are forced to see Lebanese as Arabs of a sect. We are much more important than that as pope john Paul 2 said,.. Lebanon is a message to the world.
Defacto... I can only do a small amount. I live in Australia but visit Lebanon every 2-3 years. I renovated my grandfathers (our family) house in our village. I give my family that still live in Lebanon money just as every other Lebanese who works abroad does. Without the Lebanese diaspora Lebanon would be half the nation it is today. Just the same as the Jews give to Israel, Lebanese give back to their families in Lebanon. Still every time I'm called a foreigner.
I pay rates and electricity and motor. I teach my children about their Lebanese heritage and take them to Lebanon even though Lebanon gives me nothing In return except force me into the army for conscription when I was younger. Lebanese give more to their country and expect nothing in return. Maybe this is how Khalil Gibran came up with the quote?
