The whole of Lebanon isn't impoverished. Lebanon has a GDP of 42billion and per capita (PPP) of $15,000/ per citizen. That's similar to turkey and better than Serbia. However there are areas of Lebanon that this money doesn't touch. Forget about the Palestinians, but in tripoli, beka and Southern Lebanon. Hezbollah is helping them escape from getto poverty but who do they then thank and follow? In tripoli, who is helping them? Some help from Harris and co but not enough. So what happens? These unemployed youth are easy targets for extremist gangs. The same as anywhere in the world were there is high unemployment and a getto mentality.
