“Secondly, if you look at pure motive, political causes and so on, I'm not sure that Israel or anybody who's aligned with them has actually gained by the assassination of Mr. Hariri.”
Johnny, you are not to believe this because it is false. What has misled you and I am sure many readers is the hypocritical headline by Naharnet. The man is not being charged "for refusing to give up Christianity" but rather for apostasy, or for abandoning Islam (مرتد), which is very different from what the title implies. But if Naharnet does not do its share in creating sectarian strife and division in the middle-east, how will it continue to be on the CIAs payroll?
Actually this man is not even being prosecuted for apostasy. If he was, he would have been arrested 12 years ago. Twelve years ago he converted to Christianity and no one bothered him. He was left alone assuming he will practice Christianity as millions of Iranians do; but it turned out he is mixing religion with politics, preaching the Judao-Chistian version of Christianity that is prevailing in the USA, not the Christianity we have in the Middle-East, advancing the U.S/Isralei. neo-conservative political views, smearing Islam and inciting hatred and violence. He deserves to be hung for what he is doing.
