Report: Geagea Mulling to Boycott Christian Leaders Meeting in Bkirki

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea and Phalange party chief Amin Gemayel are mulling to suspend their participation in a meeting of top Maronite political leaders scheduled to be held in Bkirki later this month.

LF sources told An Nahar daily published Tuesday that the party’s leadership is considering Geagea’s boycott of the meeting on Sept. 23 over Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi’s latest remarks on Hizbullah and the Syrian crisis.

Geagea: Govt. to Incur Hefty Price Should it Avoid Funding STL

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea stated on Thursday that Prime Minister Najib Miqati is attempting to assume his responsibilities regarding the funding of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, adding that even if the government were to be transformed into a caretaking one, it wouldn’t be able to escape funding the international court.

He said: “The government will incur negative consequences if it shies away from its duty to fund the STL.”

Aoun: Govt. Must Give Answer on Electricity Project Tomorrow

Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun accused on Tuesday the sides seeking to obstruct the electricity draft law of wanting to pass the law at an “insignificant cost,” stressing that the movement will not compromise over the law or granting the people electricity.

He said after the Change and Reform bloc’s weekly meeting: “Our commitment to the electricity project is not political maneuvering and the government must give an answer tomorrow during the cabinet session.”

Geagea: Regional Equation Changing, Hizbullah Must Dismantle Military Wing

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea on Monday called on Hizbullah to “take a brave decision to abandon its military wing,” noting that “the regional equation that was behind the strengthening of (Hizbullah’s) military clout is changing at the moment.”

“The fall of the regime in Syria will not necessarily lead to the fall of Hizbullah in Lebanon and Syria’s allies in Lebanon will throw their support behind Hizbullah in that case,” Geagea added during an interview on MTV.

Charbel Demands Geagea to Halt Escalating Lassa Dispute

Interior Minister Marwan Charbel said on Friday his meeting with Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea was to stress the importance of calming down the situation in the town of Lassa in the Jbeil district.

Charbel told As Safir newspaper that he has asked Geagea to stop interfering in the issue of construction on church property in the predominately Shiite town after the state took charge of it.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea stressed that the Lebanese government is dominated by Hizbullah and the Syrian regime that were behind the toppling of the cabinet led by former PM Saad Hariri.

Report: March 14 Statement Inspired by Meeting of Top Officials on Tuesday
