@peace: Have you heard of something called "self-criticism" ? You should definitely try it, it helps if you have any ambition of improving.
First of all I do not say Syria never wronged us, my posts were related to the current situation inside Syria, and wasnt meant to be a trial of Syria v/s Lebanon.
People say Lebanese are very self-centered, and if you can only see what is happening in Syria through the narrow vision of the Lebanese civil war then you'd be confirming this.
Now, if you really insists on assessing the history of Syro-Lebanese relations, ok, as I said they did wrong us, but the self-criticism I mentioned earlier would demand from us that we first realize WE got ourselves in that civil war. No matter WHO got support from WHERE, the belligerents responsible for the civil war were at the end of the day mainly LEBANESE.
It is too easy for some politicians to say, after Syrians got out, that they were robbing us while when they were here those same politicians were the ones collaborating with the Syrians, and their accomplices in that robbery.
Pardon my language but the sh*t we're in we mainly brought to ourselves, so blaing the Syrians for everything is a bit too easy, and illusory.
On the brighter side, they did stop Kamal Joumblat from massacring the Christians, they did stop the civil war and they did support our resistance despite all opposition (which is probably the reason why this rebellion is being staged against them now)
No peace it's not that simple. First of all, that neighbor who would denounce you is supposed to be at the rally isnt he? how would he know if you hide in your place? There's so many way one who is against Assad to not go that this is really science-fiction.
Plus, given the situation, if all these people weren't with Assad, and didn't believe his promises of democratic opening, they would just need to not show up at the protest and the government would be down so fast they wouldn't have to even worry about reprisals.
How could the gov stand if none supports it? Be a bit realistic here.
But the real problem here is that under this baseless accusation (that they are forced to be there) you purely and simply disregard their right to an opinion.
I could say the same for the anti-Assad, that they are forced to go out because the muslim brotherhood guys are putting guns to their heads, and therefore their opinion is discredited, denied the right to exist.
@ado.australia: I must say I'm surprised, not by the facts covered in the report but by the fact that they actually did report it, medias around the world are so strictly following the imposed version of "nice innocent peaceful protesters v/s bloodthirsty stupid and cruel bachar" that it just sounds like a cheap version of a disney movie.
I'd love to see it if there was an online posting of that documentary, does Abc Australia publish online?
Of course Hezbollah takes its allies opinion, and even more the people's, but in the end it takes its own decisions, no matter how much you guys fantasize nobody dictates its decisions.
hahahah indeed. I'm sure you still remember how some laughed all through the 1990s at Hezbollah's declared intention to liberate the south. Well, let's talk about it again after israel tries another foolish adventure.
PS: those who think that disarming and dropping our pants would save Lebanon from any harm are either willfully lying or gravely misinformed. Israel's plans are overtly to occupy Lebanon, at least up to the Litani and they wont settle for less than dumping all Palestinians into what would be left of Lebanon. And if you doubt they can fabricate cassus bellis anytime, with or without Hezbollah.. well just lol
to mr. past, first those days are long gone, we need to look at the current situation and it has changed a lot since the pre-70s
however if you ever doubted their intentions back in 1948, here's a little memory-refresher:
"We should prepare to go over to the offensive. Our aim is to smash Lebanon, Trans-Jordan, and Syria. The weak point is Lebanon, for the Moslem regime is artificial and easy for us to undermine."
David Ben-Gurion, May 1948, to the General Staff.
And besides that, a period of calm doesn't mean anything, they had a lot on their hands and had other priorities, it doesn't mean they gave up the intention.
"A Christian state should be established [in Lebanon], with its southern border on the Litani river.
Again, David Ben-Gurion, describing Zionist aims in 1948
