Antoine Sfeir Released One Day after Abdcution

Municipal council member of the town of Dekwaneh Antoine Sfeir, has been freed on Saturday after he was kidnapped a day earlier, the state-run National News Agency reported.

Sfeir was abducted in Dekweneh by a man from the Dandash family and has been taken to the Bekaa town of Hermel.

Army Detains Man for Preparing Explosives at Home

Lebanese troops raided the house of a Lebanese man in the eastern city of Zahle and confiscated homemade explosives and several surveillance cameras, an Army communique said on Tuesday.

“The army obtained information that Fahd Dimitri Saba, 48, prepares homemade explosives at home. The army raided the house in Zahle's Industrial City and found the explosives in addition to some electric appliances and surveillance cameras,” the statement added.

Army Cracks Down on Syrians, Busts Drugs Depot

The army conducted several raids in the Bekaa Valley, the eastern city of Zahle and the northern district of Akkar, detaining several Syrian nationals and busting a drugs warehouse.

The military said in a communique issued Saturday that it raided a drugs hideout in Bekaa Valley town of Bechwat, seizing 19 kilograms of hashish and 150 kilograms of its seeds.

Inspectors from the ministry of health sealed with red wax three butcheries in central Bekaa for failing to acquire the minimum health standards, the state-run National News Agency reported on Friday.

Two butcheries in al-Fayda area in the eastern city of Zahle were raided by the inspectors, who decided to shut them down after issuing several warnings for their owners to rectify the conditions of their butcheries.

Two al-Jadeed TV journalists and a member of the Zahle Municipality were assaulted Thursday by gunmen loyal to MP Nicolas Fattoush and his brother Pierre during the filming of a TV report on the construction of a controversial cement factory.

The 78-year-old man, identified as Sh. B., was arrested by police guards at the Zahle prison, an Internal Security Forces statement said.

Brother of Lebanese Reporter Released by Abductors

The brother of a Lebanese journalist, who was kidnapped last week in the eastern Bekaa Valley, was released overnight after the mediation of General Security chief Maj. Gen. Abbas Ibrahim.

The abductors of Khodr Farouq Darwish, whose car was found in Baalbek's al-Taybeh last Friday, had called his family and asked for a $135,000 ransom.
