Caretaker Minister of Social Affairs Wael Abou Faour and Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdul Karim Ali engaged on Saturday in a war of words days after the diplomat said in a statement that his country “has no ties with Walid Jumblat who was an accomplice in incitement against Syria.”

“The resilience of the Syrian regime didn't surprise us as much as the hatred that its leadership has towards the Syrian people didn't surprise us,” Abou Faour said in a statement.

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat has said that he would visit Syria only if the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad collapses and the country is “liberated.”

In remarks to French-language daily L'Orient Le Jour, Jumblat said: “Neither I nor my son have planned for a single moment to go to Damascus.”

Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdul Karim Ali stressed on Saturday that his country is seeing to maintain stability in Lebanon.

“Syria is keen to preserve Lebanon and its resistance,” Abdul Karim said after talks with Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun in Rabieh.

Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdul Karim Ali said on Wednesday that the ongoing battles in the northern city of Tripoli reflect the developments in Tripoli, pointing out that the final result will be in favor of Lebanon, Syria and the whole region.

“All those who strategically read the developments in the region said that the countries are integrated and the attack on Syria will have an impact,” Ali told reporters after talks with Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun at his residence in Rabieh.

Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdul Karim Ali said on Wednesday that some country's that support “terrorism” are responsible for the campaigns targeting the Lebanese and Palestinian resistance and Syria.

“Their endeavors will not change anything,” Ali said after talks with Caretaker Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour at the Bustros Palace.

Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdul Karim Ali slammed on Monday claims that Hizbullah is sending fighters to Syria.

He deemed as a “myth” such allegations, accusing the media of distorting the facts in this issue.

Caretaker Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour stressed on Tuesday that official memos exchanged between the ministry and international embassies follow strict diplomatic customs and traditions that "he is keen on abiding by", noting that not all letters must be disclosed.

"We receive tens of official memos everyday and the ministry is not obliged to announce anything about them to media outlets,” Mansour said in a meeting with media professionals.

Five shells from Syrian territories landed on Saturday in Lebanese villages along the northeastern border with Syria.

Two shells targeted Sahlat al-Mayy region on the outskirts of the town of al-Qasr in northeast of the Hermel district.

Syrian Ambassador Ali Abdul Karim Ali denied on Wednesday that Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour had handed him a letter of protest over the recent cross-border attacks on Lebanon, playing down an attempt to file a complaint with the Arab League.

“I haven’t been delivered and will not be handed over any letter of protest from the Lebanese foreign ministry,” Ali told reporters after holding talks with Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour.

Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour shied away on Thursday from revealing the details of a letter he sent to the Syrian embassy in Beirut, saying it was part of daily messages exchanged between Lebanon and Syria.

In remarks to al-Joumhouria newspaper, Mansour said the letter delivered to the Syrian mission on Monday was part of the “daily routine process” on political, economic and security issues.
