Iran Mulls Suing Hollywood over 'Argo'

Iranian media say authorities are planning to sue Hollywood over the Oscar-winning "Argo" because of the movie's allegedly "unrealistic portrayal" of the country.

Several news outlets, including the pro-reform Shargh daily, said on Tuesday that French lawyer Isabelle Coutant-Peyre is in Iran for talks with officials over how and where to file the lawsuit. Coutant-Peyre is also the lawyer for notorious Venezuelan-born terrorist Ilich Ramirez Sanchez, known as Carlos the Jackal.

Three week before the much-anticipated Oscars, U.S. film director and actor Ben Affleck won a new top prize for his film "Argo," a thriller about the rescue of American hostages in Iran.

"There was a point in my life where I was really down, really confused, I didn't know what was going to happen and I thought 'I should be a director!'. And so I did it, and I worked very hard," Affleck said late Saturday as he received the award for outstanding directorial achievement in feature film from the Directors Guild of America.

Affleck's 'Argo' Tops North American Box Office

"Argo," based on a true story about six Americans spirited out of Iran during the 1979-80 hostage crisis, was the top movie in North America this weekend with $12.3 million in tickets sold, industry estimates showed Sunday.

In its second week of release, the film directed by and starring Hollywood actor Ben Affleck jumped from the second to the top spot, earning a total of $60.8 million.
