Azerbaijan Soldier Killed in Border Clash with Armenia

Armenian troops killed an Azerbaijani soldier in the latest border clash between the arch-foes locked in conflict over the disputed Nagorny Karabakh region, officials in Baku said Thursday.

"On the evening of March 11 (Wednesday) an Armenian army reconnaissance group attempted an attack on Azerbaijani positions and was repelled after fierce fighting," Azerbaijan's defence ministry said in a statement.

Azerbaijani Troops Kill Armenian Karabakh Soldier

An ethnic Armenian soldier from the separatist Nagorny Karabakh region was killed Tuesday by Azerbaijani troops in a fresh clash along the breakaway region's frontier, the rebel authorities said.

"Serviceman Arsen Karapetyan, 20, was mortally wounded when Azerbaijani forces violated the ceasefire at the Karabakh frontline," Karabakh's defence ministry said in a statement.

Turkey Slams Armenia for Halting Deal to Improve Ties

Turkey lashed out Tuesday at Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian for his decision to withdraw from parliament a landmark deal aimed at repairing relations between the two nations. 

"We don't think this is the right approach by Armenia, it is an erroneous and baseless step," said Turkish foreign ministry spokesman Tanju Bilgic in Ankara, quoted by Turkish media.

Three Killed in new Azerbaijan-Armenia Clashes

Three people were killed in renewed clashes between Azerbaijani and Armenian forces over the disputed Nagorny Karabakh region, officials from both countries said Friday.

The victims included an Armenian civilian killed in his courtyard by Azerbaijani shelling on villages along the Karabakh border, Armenian defense ministry spokesman Artsrun Hovannisian told AFP.

OSCE Calls on Armenia, Azerbaijan to Cease Hostilities

The OSCE called Tuesday on Armenia and Azerbaijan to end deadly fighting in the disputed region of Nagorny Karabakh where four Armenian soldiers were reportedly killed this month.

Turkey PM Calls for 'New Beginning' with Armenians

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on Tuesday called for a "new beginning" in relations between Turkey and Armenians scarred by a bitter historical dispute over mass killings during World War I.

"We call on all Armenians, and invite all those who believe in Turkish-Armenian friendship to contribute to a new beginning," Davutoglu said in a statement marking the eighth anniversary of the murder of Turkish-Armenian journalist Hrant Dink, who campaigned for reconciliation between the two neighbors.
