President Michel Suleiman is seeking to resume the national dialogue between the rival parties despite the obstacles that will confront him, media reports said on Thursday.

According to al-Joumhouria newspaper, Suleiman's dialogue invitation came in light of an international desire to halt any attempt to destabilize the situation in the country.

British Ambassador to Lebanon Tom Fletcher announced on Tuesday that his country will provide Lebanon with a financial assistance to fortify its army's capabilities and to help it confront the Syrian refugees crisis.

Fletcher said after a meeting with President Michel Suleiman at the Baabda Palace that his country will supply Lebanon with $20 million to beef up its army's abilities and with $75 million to support the state with the crisis of the Syrian refugees.

Caretaker Social Affairs Minister Wael Abou Faour revealed on Tuesday that a meeting will be held with President Michel Suleiman and caretaker Prime Minister Najib Miqati at 7:00 p.m. at the Baabda Palace.

Abou Faour said in comments published in An Nahar newspaper that the meeting will tackle the establishment of a trust fund to manage the financial assistance received from donor countries and international organizations to confront the mounting Syrian refugees crisis.

Prime Minister-designate Tammam Salam stressed on Saturday that the formation of a new government can't endure further delay.

“The formation of a new cabinet has become a pressing issue given the people's concerns over their country's future,” Salam said via twitter.

European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton met kicked off her second day official visit to Beirut by meeting with President Michel Suleiman at the Baabda Palace.

Ashton reportedly canceled her scheduled meetings with Prime Minister-designate Tammam Salam and Caretaker Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour to visit UNIFIL headquarters in Naqoura instead.

The number of signatures on a memo that the March 14 alliance seeks to hand President Michel Suleiman on Hizbullah's role in Syria has reached more than 50, An Nahar daily reported on Sunday.

Pan-Arab daily al-Hayat quoted March 14 officials as saying that a delegation will visit Suleiman on Tuesday.

March 14 independent MP Butros Harb slammed on Monday attempts to paralyze constitutional institutions, urging parliamentary blocs to swiftly agree on a new electoral law.

“If circumstances obliged us to extend the tenure of the parliament then it must be for few months,” Harb said after talks with President Michel Suleiman at the Baabda Palace.

President Michel Suleiman voiced on Monday his support to an initiative proposed by the Phalange party, which focuses on introducing a constitutional amendment, which calls for neutrality and dissociate the country from the conflicts surrounding it.

“The initiative became a necessity during the current developments in the region,” Suleiman said after talks with a Phalage party delegation at the Baabda Palace.

Prime Minister-designate Tammam Salam has reportedly proposed to President Michel Suleiman a 14-member cabinet that was strongly criticized by Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat for being a “civil war plan.”

Al-Akhbar newspaper quoted sources as saying that Salam made the proposal during a meeting they held at Baabda palace last week. But when the president informed Jumblat about it, the PSP chief replied: “This is a civil war plan.”

Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi revealed on Monday that all political parties were exerting efforts to strike a deal on a hybrid vote law after the four major Christian parties decided to suspend the Orthodox Gathering proposal.

“The hybrid electoral draft-law is everybody's demand,” said al-Rahi at Rafik Hariri International Airport before traveling to France.
