Italian Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi expressed Wednesday his “fear over the Syrian crisis and the possibility of the violence spilling over to the neighboring countries,” pointing out that his country is worried “not just regarding the violence in Syria but also the nature of the clashes.”

Terzi arrived in Beirut on Wednesday to address the situation in the region, expressing hope that Lebanon would remain stable amid the turmoil in the neighboring countries.

U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Maura Connelly praised on Wednesday the resumption of the national dialogue between Lebanese foes under the sponsorship of President Michel Suleiman.

According to a statement issued by the U.S. embassy, Connelly met with Suleiman at the Baabda Palace and lauded his efforts in re-launching the all-party talks “to strengthen the national unity and stability in Lebanon.”

The latest consultations held between President Michel Suleiman and members of the national dialogue will likely lead to a second Baabda Declaration that is set to highlight what the March 8 forces and the opposition have in common on the country’s defense strategy, An Nahar daily reported Sunday.

The seventeen March 8 and 14 leaders are scheduled to meet at Baabda palace on Monday in the second round of all-party talks since their resumption on June 11 after a 19-month standstill. They are set to discuss the defense strategy and the proliferation of arms in Lebanese cities and towns.

President Michel Suleiman held talks on Saturday with Prime Minister Najib Miqati who briefed him on his recent visit to Brazil.

According to the National News Agency, Miqati informed Suleiman on his meetings with officials in Rio de Janeiro and the Lebanese community there.

Cabinet approved on Thursday a draft law allowing the government to obtain treasury loans pending the approval of the 2012 state budget, reported MTV.

Cabinet approved the extra-budgetary spending bill worth $6.8 billion, referring it to parliament in the form of an urgent bill, said LBC television.

President Michel Suleiman said on Thursday that the Lebanese leaders will tackle the controversial defense strategy, Hizbullah’s arsenal, weapons spread across the country in addition to armed Palestinian bases outside the refugee camps at the second round of the all-party talks.

“We had to set the framework of our agenda at the first session,” Suleiman told As Safir newspaper.

President Michel Suleiman expressed contentment on Wednesday on the “positive” outcome of the resumption of the national dialogue between Lebanese leaders.

“We are seeking consensus between us… It’s normal to have different opinions concerning the results of the first session,” Suleiman said in an interview with al-Akhbar newspaper.

The United States welcomed on Monday all efforts exerted by Lebanese leaders to strengthen the national unity and stability in the country.

“We encourage the participants in the national dialogue to engage constructively,” the U.S. embassy said via twitter.

The Lebanese foes seeking an accord at a new national dialogue session expressed optimism on Monday as they voiced hope that the all-party talks would have a positive impact on the country, local newspapers reported.

Phalange party leader Amin Gemayel told As Safir newspaper that he will be open to all suggestions during session at the Baabda Palace, noting that the Lebanese leaders should be ready to resolve all the crises Lebanon is suffering from.

Prime Minister Najib Miqati warned on Monday that if bickering leaders continue to hold onto their stances the country’s political and security situation would continue to deteriorate.

In an interview with the Saudi Okaz daily, Miqati said: “We should sit together to come closer and limit the differences between the viewpoints” of different leaders.
