Suicide Attack Hits Afghan Police, 4 Killed

A suicide bomber targeted prayers for a prominent assassinated Afghan police chief on Friday, killing four policemen but another top officer escaped unharmed, officials said.

Eighteen other people were wounded in the attack in Kunduz city, capital of the province of the same name which has become a Taliban bastion in recent years and seen an increase in insurgent assaults.

9 Dead in Attack on Afghan Wedding Party

Nine people were killed and five others wounded when gunmen attacked a wedding party in eastern Afghanistan overnight, a provincial spokesman said Thursday.

The groom was a relative of the district chief in Dur Baba of Nangarhar province, and women and children were among the casualties, said the spokesman Ahmad Zia Abdulzai.

A suicide car bomb attack killed an intelligence agent and wounded 26 other people in an Afghan town on the Pakistan border Thursday, officials said, in the latest in a wave of blasts.

The explosives-packed vehicle with two bombers inside blew up in Spin Boldak after intelligence agents acting on a tip-off opened fire in a bid to stop it, Lutfullah Mashal, a spokesman for Afghanistan's national spy agency, said.
