Etihad Suspends Flights to Iraq's Arbil

Abu Dhabi's Etihad Airways announced Thursday a suspension of flights to Iraqi Kurdistan's capital of Arbil because of fighting in northern Iraq.

The decision was taken for the safety of passengers and crew, the airline, which has four Abu Dhabi-Arbil flights a week, said in a statement.

French President Francois Hollande on Thursday pledged his country's "support" to forces battling Islamist militants in Iraq amid growing Western concern over an advance by Islamic State fighters.

Syria Chemicals near Three-Quarters Destroyed

Almost three quarters of Syria's entire chemical stockpile has been destroyed, the world's chemical weapons watchdog said on Thursday, after another 190 tons of agents were incinerated in Britain.

"The OPCW confirmed today (Thursday) that 74.2 percent of Syria's entire stockpile of chemicals has now been destroyed," The Hague-based Organization for the Prevention of Chemical Weapons said in a statement.
