The spokesman of the Lebanese Institute for Democracy and Human Rights has hinted that several Syrian nationals have been wrongly accused by Lebanese authorities of involvement in arms trade.

Spokesman Nabil al-Halabi told An Nahar daily published Sunday that Syrian citizen Ammar Omar al-Adib, who was arrested by Hizbullah while he was visiting a friend in Beirut’s southern suburbs, was beaten while in police custody.

Clashes in the restive Syrian city of Homs killed ten civilians, while four pro-regime militiamen died in Idlib province on Saturday, a human rights group said.

At least six civilians were killed by gunfire in the central city of Homs, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said in statements received in Nicosia.

Interior Minister Marwan Charbel said on Saturday that the Syrian army infiltrations into Lebanese territories are due to the unclear demarcation of the border between the two countries.

“If we look closely at the map it shows that the border lines intersect,” Charbel said in a TV interview with the Lebanese Forces channel.

Syria released on Saturday 553 people arrested during anti-regime protests to honor Eid al-Adha, the Muslim feast that marks the climax of the annual hajj pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia, state news agency SANA said.

"On the occasion of (Eid) al-Adha, 553 people arrested during the events in Syria and whose hands are not stained by blood, have been freed," it said.

Arab League chief Nabil al-Arabi warned on Saturday that the failure of a deal brokered by his organization to end violence in Syria would be "catastrophic" for the country and region.

"The failure of the Arab solution will have catastrophic consequences for the situation in Syria and the region," he said in a statement, while calling for an immediate end to the bloodshed.

The army condemned on Saturday some media reports that said that army trucks had entered Syrian territory and some “foreign political powers’ interpretation of this development as a sign of the army’s interference in the ongoing events in Syria.

It said in a statement: “The Lebanese army trucks’ entry to Syrian territory is normal and it happens from time to time.”

The March 14 General Secretariat coordinator Fares Soaid stated that a government that provides cover to a group that is “attached” to the Syrian regime cannot provide the Lebanese people with security.

He told the pan-Arab daily Asharq al-Awsat in remarks published on Saturday: “The opposition is preparing to topple the Lebanese government.”

Damascus on Saturday strongly condemned Washington after the U.S. State Department advised Syrians against surrendering following an amnesty for those who give up weapons.

"The American administration disclosed again its blatant interference in Syria's internal affairs, and its policy which supports killing, in addition to its funding of the terrorist groups in Syria," SANA state news agency said citing a foreign ministry official.

France said Friday that Syria was breaking its commitments to an Arab League peace plan by continuing a deadly crackdown on protesters and cast doubt on President Bashar al-Assad's dedication to the deal.

"The continuing repression can only strengthen the international community's doubts about the Syrian regime's sincerity to implement the Arab League peace plan," the French foreign ministry's deputy spokesman, Romain Nadal, told journalists.

A wounded Syrian has transported to Lebanon through al-Qaa border crossing in the Bekaa region, reported the National News Agency on Thursday.

The Syrian national has been transferred to al-Salam Hospital in al-Qobeiyyat for treatment.
