Rights Activist Hints Syrian Nationals Wrongly Charged with Arms Trade

The spokesman of the Lebanese Institute for Democracy and Human Rights has hinted that several Syrian nationals have been wrongly accused by Lebanese authorities of involvement in arms trade.

Spokesman Nabil al-Halabi told An Nahar daily published Sunday that Syrian citizen Ammar Omar al-Adib, who was arrested by Hizbullah while he was visiting a friend in Beirut’s southern suburbs, was beaten while in police custody.

6 Civilians, 4 Militiamen Killed in Syria

Clashes in the restive Syrian city of Homs killed ten civilians, while four pro-regime militiamen died in Idlib province on Saturday, a human rights group said.

At least six civilians were killed by gunfire in the central city of Homs, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said in statements received in Nicosia.

Charbel Says Poor Border Demarcation behind Syrian Army Incursions

Interior Minister Marwan Charbel said on Saturday that the Syrian army infiltrations into Lebanese territories are due to the unclear demarcation of the border between the two countries.

Syria Frees 553 Detainees on Occasion of Adha

Syria released on Saturday 553 people arrested during anti-regime protests to honor Eid al-Adha, the Muslim feast that marks the climax of the annual hajj pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia, state news agency SANA said.

"On the occasion of (Eid) al-Adha, 553 people arrested during the events in Syria and whose hands are not stained by blood, have been freed," it said.

Arab League chief Nabil al-Arabi warned on Saturday that the failure of a deal brokered by his organization to end violence in Syria would be "catastrophic" for the country and region.

Paris Says Syria Breaking Commitments to Arab Plan

France said Friday that Syria was breaking its commitments to an Arab League peace plan by continuing a deadly crackdown on protesters and cast doubt on President Bashar al-Assad's dedication to the deal.

Wounded Syrian Transported to Lebanon for Treatment

A wounded Syrian has transported to Lebanon through al-Qaa border crossing in the Bekaa region, reported the National News Agency on Thursday.

The Syrian national has been transferred to al-Salam Hospital in al-Qobeiyyat for treatment.
