Grand Mufti Sheikh Mohammed Rashid Qabbani stressed on Saturday that Lebanon's security is linked to that of the northern city of Tripoli and the North.

He urged in a statement “the residents of the North to cooperate with each other in order to avoid steering Lebanon towards instability.”

Three people were killed and four others were wounded on Saturday as sniper activity and clashes renewed between the rival neighborhoods of Bab al-Tabbaneh and Jabal Mohsen in the northern city of Tripoli.

"The army is readying to enter Jabal Mohsen and declare that the neighborhood is under its authority ahead of the withdrawal of all fighters from the streets," state-run National News Agency reported.

The Islamic National Gathering held on Friday the government responsible for the renewal of unrest in the northern city of Tripoli, saying that it has been negligent in performing its duties.

MP Mohammed Kabbara said: “The leaders of the city may be forced to call the people to civil disobedience if the government does not tackle the situation.”

Armed clashes renewed on Friday evening on all frontiers in Tripoli, ending a fragile four-hour ceasefire, as supporters of Prime Minister Najib Miqati gathered on the streets and blocked several roads in the wake of his resignation.

Rocket-propelled grenades were fired amid heavy gunfire and sniper activity, state-run National News Agency reported.

Interior Minister Marwan Charbel lamented on Friday that Lebanon's political leaders haven't yet taken the bold step to lift the political cover off gunmen in the northern city of Tripoli.

In remarks to Voice of Lebanon radio (93.3), Charbel said: “The Tripoli situation is still under control but unacceptable.”

Two people were killed and 17 others were wounded on Thursday as the exchange of gunfire renewed in the Tripoli neighborhoods of Bab al-Tabbaneh and Jabal Mohsen and other frontiers in the northern city.

"The casualty toll from the Tripoli clashes has risen to two dead and 17 wounded," LBCI television reported.

The Lebanese army said on Thursday that it arrested a main suspect in a shooting on a soldier at the state hospital in the area of al-Qobbeh in the northern city of Tripoli.

“Following a series of raids a military force arrested at dawn one of the main suspects of the shooting,” an army command communique said.

A man was killed on Wednesday by gunshots during armed clashes in the northern city of Tripoli, LBCI television reported.

“A man who hails from (Tripoli's area of) Jabal Mohsen was killed after he received a gunshot in his head in the city's al-Mouhajirin street,” it detailed, while MTV noted that his name is Talal Azaya.

A woman was wounded when a hand grenade was hurled in al-Baqqar neighborhood in the northern city of Tripoli, the National News Agency reported on Monday.

"Samira Hasan Bakra was transferred to (Tripoli's) al-Jinan hospital for treatment from a minor injury,” the NNA elaborated.
