Spain Defense Minister Backs International Action in Libya

An international military intervention is needed to end unrest in Libya, where the Islamic State group is gaining a foothold, Spanish Defense Minister Pedro Morenes said in an interview published Saturday.

"We went to Afghanistan to stop all of that from coming here, we are in Iraq, Mali or Somalia with the same objective. And now we have it nearby. Something may need to be done," he told the top-selling Spanish daily El Pais when asked if there would be a military intervention in Libya.

IS Fighter Admits to Videotaping Execution of Lebanese Servicemen

An Islamic State group militant has admitted to videotaping the slaughter of servicemen taken captive from the northeastern border town of Arsal last August, the state-run National News Agency reported on Tuesday.

Abdul Rahman al-Bazerbashi, 21, also known as Hafid al-Baghdadi, told Military Examining Magistrate Imad al-Zein that he has videotaped the killing of servicemen Ali al-Sayyed and Abbas Medlej, said NNA.

Libya's Tripoli Govt. Urges Armed Mobilization against IS

Libya's Tripoli-based government on Sunday called for an armed "mobilization" against the Islamic State group after the jihadists claimed a suicide bombing that killed five fighters allied to the government.

A statement by the Tripoli government, which is not recognized by the international community, urged "officers, soldiers... and all security forces and revolutionaries to mobilize" against IS.

Tunisia Says 172 Nationals Held by Libya Militia

Tunisia said Monday that it was negotiating for the release of 172 nationals being held by a Libyan militia as bargaining chips for one of its commanders detained in Tunis.

The foreign ministry's Arab and African affairs chief Touhami Abdouli said the Tunisians had been detained in western Libya by a militia that is part of the Libya Dawn alliance which controls the capital Tripoli and third city Misrata.
