Cities in Russian Urals, west Siberia brace for worst floods in decades

Russia said Monday more than 10,000 residential houses are flooded across the Urals, Volga area and western Siberia as emergency services were evacuating cities hit by rising rivers.

"On the territories of the Siberian, Privolzhye (Volga area) and the central federal regions a rise in air temperature, active snow melting and the opening of rivers is forecast," Russia's Emergency Ministry said on social media. "More than 10,400 residential houses are flooded."

Ukraine claims destroyed Russian planes in overnight drone attack

Ukrainian officials claimed Friday they used a barrage of drones to destroy at least six military aircraft and badly damage eight others at an airfield in Russia's Rostov region, while Russian defense officials claimed they intercepted 44 Ukrainian drones and that only a power substation was damaged in the attack.

The assault appeared to be one of Kyiv's biggest air attacks in the war, coming as its forces step up their assaults on Russian soil. The Associated Press could not independently verify either side's claims.

Iran pays homage to Guards killed in Syria strike

US Treasury chief Janet Yellen arrives in China for talks

U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen arrived in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou on Thursday, according to an AFP journalist travelling with her, kicking off a visit aimed at stabilising ties between the two powers.

Yellen arrived in Guangzhou just after 6:00 pm (1000 GMT). She will stay in China until Tuesday and is set to meet with Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Vice Premier He Lifeng, as well as central bank governor Pan Gongsheng and Finance Minister Lan Fo'an.

Russia drone attack on Kharkiv kills 4 people, wounds 12

Russian troops launched waves of Shahed drones against the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv overnight, killing four people and wounding 12, regional Gov. Oleh Syniehubov said Thursday.

Ukrainian soldiers shot down 11 of the 20 drones Russia launched over Ukraine during the night, the General Staff said.
