Violence against women is a disease in our society but has recently surfaced due to social media. These crimes should be taken seriously and proportionate punishment handed to every offender.
Josh ... This is an endemic problem in Lebanon - especially in poorer areas where lack of education and economic deprivation is known to increase the level of abuse of women, children and the elderly. It is not per se a Sunni, Shia, Alawi, Maronite et al problem. We need law and order, eduction and economic development. None of this is possible with militias that are above the control of the state.
Parliament should fix the domestic violence law without delay, and develop a national strategy to implement the law.
why is southern missing? anyone knows his whereabouts following this news?
hehehe! on a serious note, most of these battered women will go back to their abusive husbands under family or social pressure because of their limited options in a middle eastern society.
top notch and rich contribution by the flamethrower to the article..... as usual.
Ali Eid is in California if you have not noticed. His son is in damas. Her husband is a farm boy from Akkar who refused to join the LAF to become disciplined so he ended up broke?
I can still remember my first visit to Lebanon in 1981, we were at the port and a guy was wailing away at this woman. My cousin called a cop. A crowd gathered and then the cop waived us all off. He said that the couple were married and Muslim and that it was his right, as the husband to beat his wife publically. So no arrest was made.
How do you have a country with the rule of law if members of one religion are allowed to beat their spouses in public, and members of another sect do not approve of such things and get arrested for performing the same (illegal) act?? So if the law making it illegal for anyone to beat anyone else, that's an affront to Islam??
beiruti Unfortunately many men of all religions even my own muslim faith unfortunately dont know how to treat a lady. I have seen it happens before my very eyes. Its disgraceful in any culture or religion but you cant speak of logic debate when arguing with a man who thinks he is superior to his own wife and women around him. Shame on the lebanese government for allowing this to happen for so long. Also religious sheikhs who promote domination of women in many sects. I respect non of them.
hahaha man you are hilarious, willing to ally with those that consider you an infidel and those that eat organs and behead their enemies because you hate Hezbollah? I also hate them but you are the epitome of scum and the epitome of everything some delusional Christians in Lebanon are doing.
