Aoun Meets al-Rahi: Maronite Leaders Must Cooperate with Bkirki to Choose New President
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةFree Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun held talks on Monday night with Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi on latest developments, especially the upcoming presidential elections.
Aoun said: “All Maronite leaders must converge around Bkriki to hold consultations and choose the most appropriate president for Lebanon.”
“Serious efforts must be exerted to reach Christian-Christian and Christian-Lebanese consensus,” he added after the meeting with al-Rahi at Bkirki.
On Tuesday, the Change and Reform bloc stressed the importance of electing a strong Lebanese president.
It warned against presidential vacuum, saying: “The greatest vacuum in Lebanon lies in extending the term of the president.”
The bloc made its remarks after its weekly meeting at Rabieh.
Commenting on the efforts to form a new government, the bloc cautioned against the formation of a cabinet with prior knowledge that it will not enjoy parliament's confidence.
“We know what type of government would gain parliament's confidence. A de facto cabinet would not enjoy its confidence,” it noted.
Moreover, it said: “There is no such thing as a neutral or technocratic government.”
President Michel Suleiman had proposed last week the formation of a cabinet able to stage the presidential election regardless if it does not enjoy parliament's confidence.
The March 8 camp rejected the suggestion, deeming it unconstitutional.
Suleiman's six-year term ends in May, but there are fears that the differences between the March 8 and 14 camps would lead to a vacuum in the country's top post.

shia are part of the Lebanese fabric and they should have a say as any other community.
but the fact is: they do not get to impose their will on all the others :)

by the way: there is no legal acceptance of hizbushaitan as the legitimate resistance.
please drop this out of your ranting :) it is simply not true.

leb_roar8888 and co.... you seem kinda nice reasonable guy.... i hope you are not sectarian.

Naharnet is not a forum. Where did you ever see a forum here? seriously, they fed you with the wrong can i fear. try kitkat.

leb_roar9999: Any attack against benzona is considered an attack on all of us and on me specially. Don't think that benzona is alone. I have a brotherly defense agreement with him. So I advise you to mind your language, you and your fake accounts. I will not stand idle while you unjustifiably attack one of the nicest and most reasonable guys on this forum. What value do you bring to this forum? What? one day you post you like hotdogs; another day you post you like hamburgers; another you live in Australia.... IS that debate? Shame on you! Tone down your sectarian biases please.

Aoun's idea of Democracy : All Maronite leaders must converge around Bkriki to hold consultations and choose the most appropriate president for Lebanon.
What ever happened to voting ?

AOUN : The greatest vacuum in Lebanon lies in extending the term of the president.
No, you have it all wrong : the greatest vaccuum lies in Hezbollah's dismantling of the Lebanese state and its institutions. They killed our parliament, they killed our government and now they will kill the presidency so they can act freely without being held accountable for their crimes !
Before talking about your BS presidential elections, how about you ask your partners, Hezbollah about parliamentary elections ? They were the first to oppose them !
And to my knowledge, PARLIAMENT ELECTS THE PRESIDENT. And this parliament's term is expired. So until you get a new parliament, there should be no elections. This parliament no longer represents the Lebanese people. In fact, it stopped representing us the moment you forced Jumblat to switch sides and stole a majority.

Aoun. "So, how many Christians are there in Lebanon, Your Eminence?"
al Rahi. "You mean, not counting us two and Geagea?"

reyiz.bob, propaganda?? Is it really?? Are you telling me all these bombs, rockets, and powder barrels that are being thrown off of airplanes on buildings are not killing civilians such as kids, infants and women?? Come on man, this regime massacred thousands of innocent people. Please do not insult our intelligence... They did the same thing in Lebanon when they occupied us for 29 years. I was in Zahle in 1982 when they relentlessly bombed Zahle for 90 days...

change the damn constitution who cares what religion some one is why don't get the best man for the job wouldn't that be a good idea, and try to avoid people that are senile like Aoun or any war criminals would be a good start.

we are bound not to take a free action, all are imposed on us because we are soo weak..so how can we act to bring a strong president?

Since everything is care taker in Lebanon... We have a care taker government and a care taker prime minister. Can we not have a care taker president?
