Suleiman: We Need National Defense Strategy that Adheres to Army, State

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

President Michel Suleiman stressed on Sunday the need to devise a national defense strategy for Lebanon, while emphasizing that he seeks to hold the presidential elections on time.

He said: “The defense strategy should adhere to the army and the state.”

He made his remarks after attending a Sunday mass that commemorated the hundredth anniversary of the death of Saint Rafqa, which was held in the region of Jrabta.

Commenting on the presidential elections, Suleiman told reporters: “I am exerting all possible efforts to stage the presidential elections on time.”

“Suleiman: I seek to exercise democracy and portray Lebanon as democratic country at a time when Arab countries are aspiring to reach such a goal,” continued the president after the mass that was led by Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi.

The next president should base his actions on the constitution, he stressed.

“These actions should protect Lebanon and its sovereignty,” added Suleiman.

Al-Rahi meanwhile hoped during the sermon that all concerned parties would respond to Suleiman's call to resume the national dialogue.

The presidential elections are set for May when Suleiman's six-year term ends.

The president called on Friday for the resumption of the national dialogue on March 31 in order to continue discussions on a defense strategy.

Waiting for all the Hizbullah supporters to bash him because he calls for supporting the state and army....5-4-3......action

Thumb mckinl 23 March 2014, 14:37

No one need "bash" Suleiman. He suffers from his own incompetence. Rather than concentrate on getting the new government up and running and turning the LAF loose on the terrorists he holds meetings over the Baabda Accords when nothing will be solved until hostilities end in Lebanon and Syria.

joeleb,
According to HA and mc, there is no Army without HA and there is no State without HA (Mohammad Raad said it publicly and mc said it on this forum hundreds of time). But Suleiman is so much into the constitution that he is not hearing them.
The only constituion HA adheres to is that of the Amir elzaman wal makan, the orders of khameni

Sleiman, what part of it dont u understand ?
HizbIran refuses ur strategy and they got the power to refuse it.
They're using their leverage in Tripoli, Beirut, labweh and everywhere to show u his muscles.

Thumb cedre 23 March 2014, 15:59

'Dont be mad because the Sunni arming project failed and was defeated by HA. '

if KSA had spent $3 million arming some sunni irresponsibles instead of giving $3 billions to LAF, we would have a civil war.
KSA didn't even do it during civil war.
But thats not the KSA and M14/lebanese sunnis' program for Lebanon.

Thumb joeleb 23 March 2014, 13:44

Oh, and because he wants Lebanon to be a democracy, not a tyranny like Syria, Iran and the Hizbullah mentality....

Thumb ex-fpm 23 March 2014, 14:05

lol, democracy already existed but your party eroded it through its fake claim to resistance and use of its perceived strength to intimidate others and devour state resources.

Suleiman proves yet again he has no idea how to be president.

Now he is raising issues that can not be solved in the midst of a new government, imported domestic terrorism and coming presidential elections.

The man is a total incompetent ...

@mckinl: Is the Russian Ruble heading towards the abyss?

Thumb popeye 23 March 2014, 14:47

I take it then if the LAF are not prepared for such task yet, you don't mind if a pure 100% christian party arms itself with a huge arsenal of weapons and helps the LAF defend christian villages and fill that empty gap you are talking about.

We need to never ever again have another good-for-nothing president-by-parachute like this unqualified bum who put himself in a self-induced coma for almost 6 years only to wake up in the last few months of his pathetic term and make up for the lost time using his outstanding skill of art 7akeh. Good riddance, soon, inshalla.

It's the funniest thing seeing Iranians posing as Lebanese creating fake accounts and using their only justification "M14/Israel" card to throw down. Want my advice as a free thinker? Your credibility is zero based on the fact you're designed to lie and hypocrisy just flows. Roar, you're not Lebanese, it's like me jumping in and arguing about Chinese politics, pointless as you've only been influenced by one side. Disclosure? Poor guy lives in a bubble and this is his ego boost outlet, and anybody with a mental age of 4 and above would laugh at everything. Basically EVEN on here foreigners interfere. Go back to KSA and Iran please, your fight is out there not here using Lebanon like you've been doing for ages.

Thumb Elemental 23 March 2014, 18:07

Assuming I'm M14 is nothing but a petty attempt and childish excuse. You're influenced way too much by Iranians, so sad really.

Thumb Elemental 23 March 2014, 18:16

Oh you poor misinformed soul...I don't like KSA either lol. And here you go like a typical HA rep assuming I'm with them. Newsflash: NOT A FAN OF EITHER. And if that's you're only card? you're out of luck.

M8ers =
people allied with:
- a party that has pledged allegiance to the iranian revolution...
- a party that disobeys a declaration they have signed and fights abroad
- a party that thanked syria for 30 years of occupation
- a party that wants lebanon to be part of syria...

and they dare talk about lebanese sovereignty and independance! LOL

the facts prove how hypocrit they are in pretending to support lebanon when all they want is the return of syria into lebanon....

When you go to each article, all that any person with common sense sees is "blah blah Israel, blah blah Takfiri, Blah blah Iran" and the cycle repeats. Is the debate ever constructive? Not really, it's just people who can't think for themselves blaming the other. When I see this? Nobody here ever gets to the root of the problem, which is foreign interference from multiple sides. I'm full blooded Lebanese, live here, actually have SEEN these things, when someone who's NEVER set foot in my country runs his mouth? Yeah I'll step up, same against any Revolutionary Guard member or takfiri. SO run in circles and debate all you want, but until this foreign influence stops then the cycle continues :)

You want to talk democracy ? Start by dropping your ties with Bashar and Iran. Then we can talk democracy all you want. Until then, you're still the terrorist group all free democratic and patriotic Lebanese are affraid of !
