Facebook, which recently bought Whatsap for $19billion (£11.4bn), went down Thursday frustrating users from across the world.

On logging in to Facebook.com, a message appears that reads: "Sorry, something went wrong. We are working on getting this fixed as soon as we can."

This is the first time Facebook has suffered a widespread outage which has lasted for more than a few minutes.

Twitter reported worldwide Facebook outage on both desktop and mobile. Facebook owned properties Instagram and Whatsapp were still operating.

Facebook was up and running after a 30 minute global outage.

Facebook responded to the outage and apologized saying that efforts to resolve the issue kicked off immediately “'We resolved the issue quickly, and we are now back to 100 per cent. We're sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused,” media reports quoted a Facebook spokesman as saying.
