Heavy Fighting in Arsal between Hizbullah and Militants

Security sources raised fears on Friday that the Syrian refugee camps in the Bekaa border town of Arsal are possibly transformed into bases that incubate militants. The fears went in parallel with heavy gunfights that erupted Thursday between the said militants and Hizbullah fighters.

Since Sunday, the Eastern Mountain Range (on the Lebanese-Syrian border) has been witnessing heavy fighting between Hizbullah and al-Nusra Front militants as Syrian warplanes have also raided the outskirts of Arsal, Wadi Nahle, Younine, Falita and Kara.

Unnamed security sources confirmed to As-Safir daily that Hizbullah fighters were able to seize control of a number of strategic hilltops in the region.

“The battle aims to protect the resistance in the Bekaa area,” the sources said, “reaching to the final closure of the Qalamoun front that could possibly safeguard Lebanon from the danger of booby-trapped cars, suicidal bombers and rockets” they added.

They stated fears that the Syrian refugee camps in the area could turn into camps that harbor militants, or a springboard to head to Syrian or Lebanese territories for violent acts.

The fighting killed more than 100 people including Omar al-Yakzan an aide to Sirajeddine Zouraikat spokesman for the Abdullah Azzam Brigades, in addition to hundreds who were wounded and 17 captured insurgents.

Arsal, a predominantly Sunni area, backs the uprising against Syrian President Bashar Assad.

The town lies 12 kilometers from the border with Syria and has been used as a conduit for weapons and rebels to enter Syria, while also serving as a refuge for people fleeing the conflict.

The town has seen a massive influx of refugees as a result of the heavy fighting in Qalamoun.

"Battle aims to protect the resistance"... which means Hezbollah's claim of protecting Lebanon is just like Hassan Nasrallah himself : BS !

Thumb _mowaten_ 18 July 2014, 12:31

yea, "Unnamed security sources" said... and so? all that it means is that the person who wrote the article wants to believe this is the reason.

Thumb FlameCatcher 18 July 2014, 13:11

And you believe that HA is protecting Lebanon ! It's you're right. Some people believe in god, some in Santa, some in Satan, some in Nasrallah ... others are just too aware to believe in BS ! You still hang on to fairytales it seems !

Thumb FlameCatcher 18 July 2014, 18:34

@FT : you can try and fail at this game as much as you want. This doesn't change the fact that your wishful thinking is far from reality. And that Hezbollah is a terrorist organisation who is deliberitaly inventing other Sunni terrorist organisations to justify their crimes. This is Assad's technique and Nusra, Da3esh, Takfiri BS is all part of the same game.

There is nothing you can say or invent to prove otherwise. Most "threats" are a fabrication by Hezbollah to justify saving Bashar from a real, legitimate opposition. The same way Bashar had islamists infiltrate the opposition to sabotage its legitimacy.

And yes, Hezbollah blocked the entire democratic agenda, process and dismantled everything with the help of none other than Aoun. First objective being to postpone everything until they can secure Bashar another term. Second objective being to take back control of Lebanon for which they are paying the price by fighting in Syria !

Thumb FlameCatcher 19 July 2014, 00:45

FT : Don't fool yourself. You are incapable of answering because all your arguments are based on lies and illusions.

And it's not a matter of losing this debate. As long as Hezbollah exists, as long as Lebanon is not free of weapons, we are all losers !

thank you for caring. Actually I am fine. @popeye is arriving in the USA early next week on a permanent residence permit. As you know, immigrant visas are not easy to come by these days but his qualifications helped speed up the process considerably. In other words, he will become a U.S citizen in 3 years. How about you, you still carry an iranian passport?

Back when there wasn't yet a "Caliphate", Hizb practically invited ISIS into Lebanon, sacrificed a few peon supporters (noticed that there were never actual Hizb officials killed in any of the ISIS suicide bombings?), and then went about claiming to be the "protectors" of Lebanon so as to garner popular support for the massacres they are committing in Syria. But back then that was just ISIS they were inviting in - a clumsy bunch of religious suicide-bombers (like Hizb in the '90s), but otherwise seemingly pretty harmless in the long run. Now, ISIS have American-made tanks, British-made rocket-launchers, tens of thousands of men, oodles of money, and they're making mince-meat of the Kurdish rebels who are standing in their way as they're moving from Iraq back to Syria. Guess where they're heading next, la sama7 Allah?

Iceman
Your buddy will never become a US citizen in 3 years unless he marries an American girl and that would give him the green card within a year then there is a minimum 5 years requirement from the date of the green card then he can apply for US citizenship
So your 3 years are off and if you say he applied based on his qualifications that would take more than a year to get his green card
Check it out my friend

texas, i usually agree with u but ur theory is BS. Youtube 'arsal refugee' and u will see the poor people in there. Most of them dont have proper shelter, sanitation and food. They cant care less about HizbIran or fellow lebanese sunnis. They just want their kids to survive next winter. Medias telling about Arsal like if it was Tora Bora, but many humanitarians, among them christians, went to arsal AND to the borders and didnt see isis or jan... That doesnt mean there is none, there must be but not hundreds...

Thumb cedre 19 July 2014, 06:04

so HizbIran brought the war in Lebanon and LAF still watching...
