A bomb detonated on Wednesday evening in the northern city of Tripoli, killing at least one person and wounding several others amid reports that the blast targeted an army patrol.

"A bomb was placed next to a Renault Rapid car in Mouharram region in southern Tripoli, 30 meters away from a military post in the city," the state-run National News Agency reported.

The NNA said A.Sh. was killed in the evening blast while four others were wounded.

Military sources assured that no soldiers were harmed in the blast.

"Only civilians were wounded in the explosion," the sources told LBCI television.

LBCI, however, quoted sources as saying that three people were killed and more than 10 others wounded in the Tripoli bomb.

Earlier, OTV said a bomb exploded in Bab al-Ramel neighborhood in Tripoli, injuring many people in the area.

Al-Jadeed television also confirmed the news, noting that the blast took place at the al-Khnaq Bridge area in the city.”

"The wounded were transferred to the Islamic Hospital and al-Shifa' Hospital for treatment,” it added.

The bomb that detonated is probably locally-made, the same source said.

MTV said the explosion targeted an army patrol, adding that one person was killed while four others were wounded in the incident.

Tripoli's news network revealed that the explosion caused huge material damage in cars parked in the area, confirming also that many people were injured in the blast.

So, the bombs go off in tripoli because the aid convoy headed to Arsal is blocked from entering the city by Hezbollah. Such great guys, Hezbollah. They get us into this thing and are not parties to the fight in Arsal, and then obstruct the deal to de escalate worked out by the parties which, of course, causes the sectarian conflict to flare elsewhere!!

This is why Lebanon cannot stand one Confessional Group having this much power so as to act unilaterally as does Hezbollah. Lebanon is a balance. One side can only go so far as the others will allow in a dynamic tension created by Sunni, Shia, Christian. The same would be true if Christians had the power and overreached, as they did 40 years ago, or the Sunni. They balanced system breaks down, as is happening now. Each can only act as far as the others allow. But Hezbollah acts as if there is no other confessional group in Lebanon but themselves.

Sayyed Nasrallah always bragged that the strength of the resistance lies in the fact that its fighters are ordinary citizens who are fathers, husbands, and go to work daily but when needed they put on the uniform and become the formidable fighters they are. Residents of Labweh, Dahye, Sour,m nabatteyye etc etc are HA.

It is always the same who make problems and this is since French independence... partition is the only solution as we have nothing in common

To everyone criticizing the "other side" in the current events, you are entitled to your opinion, but the fact that this is what you choose to focus on now instead of having a thought for the martyrs of the lebanese army that are protecting our necks shows how bias and hatred have poisoned our country. Long live Lebanon and God bless the souls of the sons of our military that have sacrificed themselves and continue to do so so that you have a right to an opinion. 3ayb! Ste7o

Not the first time the Salafis committed such crimes. They are also to blame for the Tripoli mosque bombings last year

ashrafieh, you are targeting all sunnis in your comment which is ridiculous. This is exactly what brings us at loggerhead. If some sunnis extremist are acting this way it does not mean that all sunnis are extremists, against the army or the country. You should rather listen to what the mainstream sunni politicians have been saying on and on the past years that is they are for a strong multi confessional country, strong instituions, etc….
