Reports of an alleged deployment by Islamic State gunmen in Sannine's mountains stirred an uproar in the country on Friday, although several officials refuted the claims and the army said its measures in the area were part of “preventive security.”
Ad-Diyar newspaper had on Friday morning quoted Arsal's municipal chief as saying that “members of the IS are deployed in the mountains of Zahle and Sannine.”
“The Lebanese army raided a hotel in Sannine's mountains and arrested heavily armed Syrians,” ad-Diyar added, noting that the military also deployed troops “all the way from Baskinta to Baqish to Sannine's mountains.”
“A large number of civilian residents were seen carrying arms and deploying in the mountains to defend Baskinta, Bteghrine, Bikfaya and the highlands of Northern Metn,” the newspaper alleged.
The claims prompted the army to issue a communique in which it condemned inaccurate reports that “spark unjustified fear among citizens.”
The military stressed that the allegations are baseless, reassuring that its recent measures in some areas, including Baskinta, were part of “preventive security across all Lebanese regions, given the circumstances that the country is going through.”
Earlier on Friday, Northern Metn MP Ibrahim Kanaan of the Change and Reform bloc reassured after phone talks with the army command and the intelligence directorate that “there are no security developments in Sannine and Northern Metn's mountains but rather preventive measures by the Lebanese army.”
He said troops were “inspecting the places of residence of (Syrian) refugees to make sure that there are no fugitives among them.”
“There is no need to panic,” Kanaan added.
MP Michel Murr for his part denied “media reports about the presence of IS gunmen in the mountains of Baskinta and Sannine.”
The reports come in the wake of a deadly battle that the jihadists fought against the Lebanese army in the Bekaa town of Arsal, during which they overran the town and killed and kidnapped dozens of troops and policemen.

If the Salafist state is in Sannine, then it is because Geagea invited them there. As he once said, "Fal ya7kom al ikhwan!"

Karim, you seem to forget that Sannine and the Metn is Ouwwet's heartland. If ISIS enters it, LF will fight. LF still has weapons and fighters, and they're waiting. The newspaper "alleges" that residents are arming themselves to protect the villages; even if it wasn't necessarily true today, it's going to be true tomorrow. After seeing this article Christians are gonna start arming themselves for sure.

"If ISIS enters it, LF will fight".
LF is ideologically allied to ISIS, and they have the same regional sponsor (Saudi Arabia). Geagea never condemns ISIS and always tries to downplay the threat. If ISIS enters Sannine, the LF won't lay a hand on them.

"Ideologically allied to ISIS" spare me. Just because Geagea is allied with Hariri doesn't mean he's with ISIS, and he downplayed the threat because between the army and Hezbollah (remember they should be coordinating), this group should have never been able to enter Lebanon. It was Hezbollah who said they went to Syria to prevent the takfiri from coming (before they even came). But their participation in Syria invited all the takfiri into Lebanon. Geagea is a Christian and he won't allow ISIS to invade the Metn.

6 out of the 8 Metn MPS are from FPM--as of the 2009 elections--which was five years ago. Aoun has lost a lot of support. And that isn't even the point. Metn was defended by Ouwwet, historically it is their land.

Yel3an Rafak shu inti smart. Walk ya raytak khreet wla hkeet. Why do not you accuse ISIS for the drone above his ja3ja3 house few months ago..also accuse Isis for the snipers at his house. Those not paying electricity and stealing the government infrastructure to build their militia telecom network are ashraf al nas.

No offense to your parents or anything, but what kind of Salafists call their son "Phil"?

Who invited them to Lebanon from Iraq? It is the idiot hiding with rats in dahyeh.

We'll have to carry arms to defend our land sooner or later if not from Isis it would be from those who refuse to disarm since 2005, but I agree with your statement.

over the past few years, I was once unsure who Gabby was with his hateful positions. Was he a leb patriot who hated Hezballah? Was he a Zionists pretending to be Lebanese? Was he LF? Was he just a scared expat? Now we know he is pro ISIS, pro Al Qaida terrorist who supports isis incursion into Mount lebanon to kill Christian Lebanese.
That narrows it down to either a Zionist trouble maker, or a crazy fanatical, extremist, terrorist salafist! Either way, no longer worth my curiosity.

This is a very peculiar story of Ad Dayar. Obviously not a true story that Dae3g is in the Upper Metn, but the story seems to have been put out to see what the reaction of the people would be. It seems that the Christians of Bkfaya and Biskinta responded by pulling out their personal arsenals. Well now the Dae3g knows the order of battle and the weapons that can and will be displayed against them if they try. So it was an effort to have the Upper Metn show its hand before Dae3g showed theirs. Dirty trick, I say.
