The General Security kicked off a reform plan to straighten the deteriorating conditions and chaos on the Lebanese-Syrian border expelling 32 of its members for immoral behavior, al-Joumhouria daily reported on Wednesday.

The General Security started this step on the al-Masnaa border crossing to rectify the chaotic situation that emerged following Lebanon's decision to limit and control the number of refugees entering Lebanon, the daily added.

Information obtained by the daily stated that 32 members of the General Security were expelled lately for unethical behavior, and a decision stating that strict measures and even imprisonment will be taken against security members who do not comply to manners.

General Security chief Abbas Ibrahim revealed that he dispatched high ranking officials from the directorate to the General Security site in al-Masnaa. “Their suggestions have helped organize the new emerging situation with the influx of Syrian refugees,” he satated.

With the new mechanism adopted to control the situation, Ibrahim stated that the Syrian nationals passing to Lebanon through that point shall stay in their cars which would help control the overcrowded situation.

“This mechanism is better than the situation that prevailed before which led to chaos. The infrastructure in that location is not eligible to accommodate that large number of inflowing refugees crossing from Syria to Lebanon,” said Ibrahim.

“The overcrowded situation led to enormous pressure on members of the General Security. Some members have been exposed to temptations to facilitate the passage of people, but few have responded,” added the General Security chief.

He voiced expectations that the situation will improve on al-Masnaa point revealing that he will visit that location by the beginning of the new year to follow personally on the the procedures and ensure the proper functioning.”

The Lebanese government recently introduced restrictions on refugees in an attempt to limit their numbers.

The measures call for obligating any Syrian to fill in a form explaining the reasons for entering Lebanon, present proper identification papers at the entry.

These conditions also include Syrians who are not seeking to travel to Lebanon as refugees.

Lebanon has been struggling to support the burden of around 1.5 million Syrian refugees that have been pouring into the country since the eruption of the Syrian conflict in March 2011.
