To mark the international cardiovascular awareness month, Yaduna Foundation and the Women Heart Health Center launched its new awareness campaign to sensitize women and encourage them to take action and improve their heart health, a press release said on Saturday.

The event took place at Yaduna’s activation stand in ABC Ashrafieh and was attended by members of the press and VIPs who celebrated the reveal of Yaduna’s iconic Red Dress designed by the masterful Elie Saab.

The new campaign entitled ‘Protect your Heart’ is a national wakeup call to all women about the importance of knowing their risk for heart disease -the number 1 killer of women in Lebanon and the World-. It launched with flair and style, the first Red Dress which represents femininity, strength, joy and power, as well as the fight against heart disease in women, the press release added.

"This red dress symbolizes the life flowing in women’s veins and the vibrating love in her heart. The dress is a blooming rose harmonizing each women within her family and community. May your presence always shine in the lives of those you cherish ... “expressed Elie Saab.

“Women may not be aware they have symptoms of heart disease, in large part because women's symptoms can be subtle and they overlap with other illnesses”, said Mrs. Wafaa Sleiman, President of Yaduna foundation.

“We must all remember that we are making an impact in this difficult fight, and together we can continue to help build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. Regardless of any woman’s socioeconomic background and health coverage, Yaduna and the Women Heart Health Center (WHHC) provide leadership and financial support to promote women’s cardiovascular health”.

The nation-wide awareness campaign is set to run for 1 month, educating women about the risks of heart diseases, including how to recognize these danger signs, which are often insidious and symptomless.

To expand the outreach of the core awareness message to a wider target audience and impact more lives, Yaduna joined efforts with ABC by dressing up their windows in red and distributing educational material. An interactive 17 meters booth was set in ABC Ashrafieh to sensitize the general public about the risks of heart disease in women and the importance of early diagnosis while raising awareness

The campaign will also be promoted through various media outlets including TV, press, radio, billboards and Social Network.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the number one cause of death among women in the world.

In fact, 56% of deaths among women are due to cardiovascular diseases while 64% of them did not appear to have any symptoms. Preventive examinations are crucial for women above the age of 45 and can be done at the Women’s Heart Health Centre in collaboration with eminent cardiologists regardless from AUBMC and USJ-FM of the women’s social background as the center is run by Yaduna, a not-for-profit foundation.
