A leading member of the Arab Democratic Party, Rifaat Eid, has been sentenced in absentia to life imprisonment over incitement of violence in the northern city of Tripoli.

The Permanent Military Court headed by Brig. Khalil Ibrahim issued on Monday the sentence against him, which included hard labor, after he was convicted of provoking strife between the rival Tripoli districts of Jabal Mohsen and Bab al-Tabbaneh.

He was also convicted of distributing arms and inciting murder.

Four detainees linked to the case also received prison sentences of one to two years.

Eid has had several arrest warrants issued against him over the fighting between the two neighborhoods.

His father Ali, who heads the Arab Democratic Party, is also accused of helping fugitives behind suicide bombings that targeted Tripoli mosques in August 2013.

Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi said in April last year that Rifaat Eid had escaped to Orange County, California, and Interior Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq noted Ali Eid had taken refuge in Syria.

It's hilarious how this guy is in California. Some Hollywood producer can use him to be a criminal in their movie...

Careful shishani! You dare call Rifi a liar!?!?

Thumb _mowaten_ 24 February 2015, 15:03

And fair enough, if the court found him guilty then we have to respect that. Sed lex... But where are the other ones who incited violence? Where are those who conducted dozens after dozens of attacks on jabal mohsen residents?

Any guilt related to the bombings of the mosques remains to be proven, and in any case it was not the start of anything. The mosques bombing was in mid-2013, whereas the clashes started at least in early 2012.

Also, it's hard to believe that a small group in a surrounded enclave would be the one attacking a group at least 10 times bigger than it, and anyone who saw them chanting calls to slaughter infidels (especially "rafidis" and "shias") would know who's who.

Also i'm just noting what a big hypocrite you are, because I condemned these attacks and you know it very well. Unlike you who always found justifications and excuses for other terrorist attacks when they suited your hate agenda.

He's in Syria. Don't swallow Rifi's lies as you swallow his juice.

Incitement? So why isn't Rifi in jail?

Thumb eagledawn 24 February 2015, 09:19

Rifi has influencw over all takfiris in Lebanon.

Missing ArabDemocrat.com 24 February 2015, 11:11

Mystic has influence over all zombies.

Rifi has no say or influence over the military court. It is the same military court the terrorist resistance hails when it convicts the resistance opponents.

Both Hariri & Rifi should recieve same sentences. Then it would be legal.

This minority group, fought for their survival in Tripolu for centuries, yet they have to pay for everything, even the crimes the takfiris committed. Our Justice Minister should be the one behind bars.

Missing peace 24 February 2015, 11:48

if you have evidence that the justice minister or hariri are guilty of anything then show it to a court... otherwise your rants are just pure frustrations from a sick mind....

"This minority group, fought for their survival in Tripolu for centuries" have you smoken too much? for centuries???? you are so comic!
