Marada Movement leader MP Suleiman Franjieh is set to hold a series of talks with independent officials, reported al-Joumhouria newspaper on Saturday.

These figures include Telecommunications Minister Butros Harb.

Talks are likely to focus on the lawmaker's presidential bid.

Franjieh announced his nomination of Thursday.

His candidacy has been met with reservations from the March 14 camps of the Kataeb and Lebanese Forces and his ally in the March 8 camp, the Change and Reform bloc.

Lebanon has been without a president since May 2014 when the term of Michel Suleiman ended without the election of a successor.

Ongoing disputes between the rival March 8 and 14 camps over a compromise candidate have thwarted the polls.

One more time, this proves that the Christians are not united, instead of deciding on one, Hariri hand picked one for them by dividing and conquering. What a shame and instead of the Patriarch choosing it for them, someone else did....

curious for some feedback on my question..
If Hariri went as far as nominating franjieh and putting his political group's program/identity at risk... Then why not just go all the way and nominate Aoun? What do you think franjieh promised in return? There has to be an exchange ; it doesn't make sense otherwise

In the case of Aoun and Hariri, there is political AND personal differences. In the case of Franjieh, there is "only" political differences. The less of two evils for Hariri as it seems, and very much in line with the top priority over the last decade: To prevent Michel Aoun from becoming president of Lebanon.

Some kind of rotten democracy we have. Instead of candidates convincing the people, they go and convince each other by making behind the scenes deals.
