LF to boycott cabinet until explosives case referred to Judicial Council

The ministers of the Lebanese Forces will keep boycotting cabinet sessions until the case of the Hezbollah explosives shipment gets referred to the Judicial Council, the country’s top state security court, the pro-LF Nidaa al-Watan newspaper reported on Tuesday.

The four ministers of the LF had boycotted Thursday’s session.

“This decision comes after sensing intentional procrastination in referring the Dahr al-Baidar explosives case to the Judicial Council,” MTV reported last week.

Sources told MTV that the current stance of the LF ministers stems from “a clear crisis of priorities: they consider that the security of Lebanese citizens in the explosives case and their social security regarding the electricity file are two pivotal issues in which continuous procrastination and stalling can no longer be accepted.”

Nidaa al-Watan reported on Tuesday that the government had decided not to currently refer the file to the Judicial Council due to an alleged Hezbollah threat to stage a May 7-like military takeover of the country.

It is the threat that justifies and should promptly motivate the government to detain Qassem, file charges, and put both the file on the Dahr al-Baidar explosives case and a new file on Hezbollah's planning to "topple the government and impose a military fait accompli on the ground".

Mr. Berri has all the facts, and comes to the wrong conclusion.

Arrest Qassem and try him on charges of sedition.
