Report: GCC Countries to Ban Lebanese from Entering Territories

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

The Gulf countries will ban Lebanese citizens from entering their territories if the Lebanese state failed to take a firm stance from statements issued by Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun, media reports said on Tuesday.

According to al-Akhbar newspaper, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Abdullatif bin Rashid al-Zayani informed Lebanese Chargé d'affaires in Saudi Arabia Munir Anouti that the Gulf countries demand the government to take a strict stance from Aoun's statements on the developments in Bahrain.

The newspaper reported that Kuwaiti authorities also denounced Aoun's statements in a memo received by the Lebanese embassy.

On Monday, al-Zayani strongly condemned Aoun's rhetoric during a meeting with Anouti at the GCC Secretariat General's headquarters in Riyadh.

The memo described Aoun's statements to Iran's al-Alam television last week as “irresponsible,” considering them “misleading... and having nothing to do with the real situation in Bahrain.”

The FPM leader said that the demands of the protesters in Bahrain are “fair and justified.”

He criticized the Arab League and international community for failing to support the protests.

Aoun added: “It's unfortunate that a peaceful revolution, which has been oppressed and going on for three years, has not been recognized enough by the world.”

"Such irresponsible statements contradict with the historical and brotherly ties between Lebanon and GCC countries,” the memo pointed out.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Najib Miqati telephoned his Bahraini counterpart Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman, stressing that Lebanon respects Bahrain's sovereignty and that the stances voiced by some Lebanese leaders do not reflect the government's official stance.

Default-user-icon Hiram (Guest) 19 February 2013, 08:49

What an idiot! Do you know how many companies, employees, families, are suffering because of this?
If we like it or not the GCC is where thousands of Lebanese are supporting their families back home.

Thumb cedar 19 February 2013, 12:51

actually your an idiot, by your irrational logic Just because people work somewhere means they should shut up and be treated like a fool and humiliated - just so they dont get sacked. WRONG. When Lebanese stand up for them self's and their dignity, then it will be the Gulf states citizens who flock to Lebanon to work!

Do you really know if something like this happens and we are banned from entering the GCC countris how many families will go into poverty! Wake up from your stupid dream and from your brain wash! these lunatic leaders are manipulating you for their own benefit! Since when Aoun is a great supporter to Syria and Iran? Did yo ask your self this question? Wake up

Lebanon has become an embarrassment a long time ago with its blind support of Iran, and no the Sunni's don't take orders from Saudi Arabia or anyone else in comparison. Soon no Arab country will show us hospitality and we will have nowhere to work as our politicians are {all} incompetent and our economy is insufficient.

Default-user-icon trueself (Guest) 19 February 2013, 08:44

I am afraid that Aoun is losing his brain faculties and is a danger for the Christian Lebanese as well as all the Lebanese. This small guy is giving so much value to himself; he’s becoming a precarious cancer in the body of the Christians that needs to be purged. I know that his age might be a culprit in his brain’s deterioration, yet the Christian can’t afford such a person who is so careless and lacks tactfulness. We are with the Arabs side by side and we value their brotherhood. The Lebanese, of whom I am one, benefited from the Arab world in millions of ways. Iran never brought a penny to any Lebanese, let alone any value to our lives. Aoun only represents himself and no Lebanese agrees with his stance, other than those who are corrupted from his gangs.

God bless him for ruining the lives of thousands of lebanese families who work in the gulf or had an opportunity there.
God bless him for making lebanese who lost their jobs more susceptible for getting paid money to vote.
God bless him for making lebanese who wont have opportunities in the gulf to rely on political parties for support
What can I say the general is just another lebanese politician: He hires his relatives and puts them in important positions, opens his mouth without thinking how it would affect lebanese, and uses street language. God bless us with this stuff...

FT - Many Lebanese families would be destitute was it not for remittances from the Gulf. I believe what Aoun was correct in his assessment of the Bahrain situation even though he is a hypocrite when it comes to Syria. In addition, it is the policies of HA that is driving lebanon into the poor house. You want to be strong, build an economy so we are not beggers in other people land. With HA leading its Jihads, very few people would want to invest in Lebanon.

Thumb lebnanfirst 19 February 2013, 09:20

One can understand, even if one does not agree with, HA's comments about Bahrain though it is no Lebanese's business. It defies logic that any Christian would mouth such stupid comments. For one thing, no smart politician allows one self to be mired in inter Arab politics especially those tinged with religious factionalism. For another, we Christians are a minority in our own country and need to coexist with both Shiites AND Sunnis. As such we need to balance our approaches to our fellow Moslem Lebanese and let them sort out their differences on their own. Those of us who oppose HA do not do so because it is Shiite but because of its distant oriel beliefs in a theocratic system instead of a democratic civil one. We also oppose those Sunnis who are religiously extreme, and most Sunnis are NOT, I know I have many Sunni friends.
Sound should layoff this adolescent indulgence of his and act more as a leader. Then again, he never stops reminding me why I ditched him.

Iranian sympathizers are funny hypocrites too. Who heard HA supporting the Syrian uprising when it was peaceful? No one. And unless the propaganda convinced you otherwise, Syria had no democracy and no freedom of speech, just like Bahrain.

Missing ArabDemocrat.com 19 February 2013, 09:56

FT - It has nothing to do about anti-Shia. For many Gulf Arabs, Iran is a historical threat since it is an empire. Study the history of Persia for the last 3000 years. It has almost always been a hegemon in the region. The Gulf countries see it from this angle. The fact that Iran is uses Shias outside its borders to expand its influence will invariable put these communities at odd with the Gulf states - not because they are Shia but because they are allies of Iran. If the ally of Iran is a Sunni, they would get the same treatment.

How stupid, blind and deaf can you Aounis be ? Do you have any excuse for him ?

This isn't to defend any M14 followers who follow blindly just the same ! However, their stance is more coherent with their beliefs !

Default-user-icon LiarAoun (Guest) 19 February 2013, 13:01

The orgy that Aoun is justifying ? The orgy that Aounies are glad to support ?

You're the retard for not understanding the essence of revolt against regimes.

Both revolts in Syria and Bahrain are legitimate. They are the people's will for freedom and prosperity. Thank god Bahrain hasn't reached a tenth of the bloodshed happening in Syria.

This does not mean the two situations are not the same and this does not give excuses to Aoun playing both sides. Either you support the public will for freedom or you don't. You don't get to pick sides each time to fit your personnal goals. Aoun believes in nothing but his own interests, not the lebanese, not yours and not mine !

You cannot condemn criminals while defending others! Unless you're getting something from one !

We're thousands of lebanese forced to leave our country to work in the GCC and feed ourselves and our families left behind. Aoun's statement is foolish especially that 1/ No lebanese rights were ever transgressed in these countries and 2/ his comments are a direct result of his alliance to Hezbollah rather than strong beleif in the Bahraini cause.

Let's focus on speaking for and defending the rights of the lebanese ppl living in lebanon first rather than diverge the reality of our miserable situation by mendling in foreign affairs.

phoenix, may i remind you that Lebanon is not the US, when you become such a powerful and rich nation, then you can do whatever you feel like . Meanwhile, there are more than 500,000 lebanese families living in the GCC, or receiving Jobs from there, I don't think if your only source of income comes from these countries , it is wise to attack them. Now , if you are as rich as MP Aoun , where he has millions of Dollars coming from other sources, then thats another issue. I wonder why MP Aoun didn't attack the Gulf when he was being financed by them 3, 4 years ago... Just to tell you that, what he is saying only serves his and his allies political affiliations. If i may ask what field you work on , i can relate how these speeches can affect your income. ..
