A Hamas member was killed Wednesday in a suburb of the Syrian capital Damascus, a senior member of the group told Agence France Presse, adding that they suspected Israel's spy agency of being behind the attack.

The victim was Kamal Hussein Ghannaje, said the official, speaking under condition of anonymity.

Egypt's ailing former strongman Hosni Mubarak is slipping in and out of a coma and his morale has plunged after news of Mohamed Morsi's victory in the presidential polls, officials told AFP on Wednesday.

"The former president has been greatly affected by the news of Morsi's presidential victory," said one of the officials at a Cairo military where Mubarak was transferred last week.

An attack on a pro-government television near Damascus killed seven staff Wednesday, state media said, while 29 people died in other violence on the heels of the "bloodiest week" of the 15-month uprising, according to a watchdog.

The United States on Wednesday condemned an attack on a pro-government television station in Syria which killed seven staff in the latest bloody twist of an uprising against the Damascus regime.

"We condemn all acts of violence including those targeting pro-regime elements," White House spokesman Jay Carney said, and also rebuked President Bashar al-Assad for unnecessarily killing civilians with a brutal crackdown.

Egypt is to sue an Iranian news agency for having allegedly fabricated an interview with president-elect Mohamed Morsi, the official MENA news agency reported on Wednesday.

It quoted the Islamist leader's spokesman Yassir Ali as saying Fars news agency made up the widely quoted interview in which Morsi said he would improve ties with Iran and revise Egypt's 1979 peace treaty with Israel.

Yemen has asked for U.S. drones to be used "in some cases" to target al-Qaida leaders in the country, its foreign minister told AFP on Wednesday.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will hold talks with Israeli vice prime minister Shaul Mofaz on Sunday, a senior Palestinian official told Voice of Palestine radio.

"President Abbas will meet with Mofaz on Sunday in Ramallah at Mofaz's request," negotiator Mohammad Eshtayeh told the official radio station Wednesday.
