Mossad Suspected in Killing of Hamas Member in Syria

A Hamas member was killed Wednesday in a suburb of the Syrian capital Damascus, a senior member of the group told Agence France Presse, adding that they suspected Israel's spy agency of being behind the attack.

The victim was Kamal Hussein Ghannaje, said the official, speaking under condition of anonymity.

Seven Pro-Assad TV Staff among 36 Killed in Syria

An attack on a pro-government television near Damascus killed seven staff Wednesday, state media said, while 29 people died in other violence on the heels of the "bloodiest week" of the 15-month uprising, according to a watchdog.

Live footage broadcast by state television showed extensive damage to the studios of Al-Ikhbariya satellite channel outside the capital with several small fires still burning.

U.S. Condemns Syria Television Station Attack

The United States on Wednesday condemned an attack on a pro-government television station in Syria which killed seven staff in the latest bloody twist of an uprising against the Damascus regime.

"We condemn all acts of violence including those targeting pro-regime elements," White House spokesman Jay Carney said, and also rebuked President Bashar al-Assad for unnecessarily killing civilians with a brutal crackdown.

Egypt to Sue Iran News Agency over 'Fabricated' Interview

Egypt is to sue an Iranian news agency for having allegedly fabricated an interview with president-elect Mohamed Morsi, the official MENA news agency reported on Wednesday.

It quoted the Islamist leader's spokesman Yassir Ali as saying Fars news agency made up the widely quoted interview in which Morsi said he would improve ties with Iran and revise Egypt's 1979 peace treaty with Israel.

Yemen FM Admits U.S. Drones Used Against al-Qaida

Yemen has asked for U.S. drones to be used "in some cases" to target al-Qaida leaders in the country, its foreign minister told AFP on Wednesday.
