Myanmar Police Reject Lawsuit over Monk Protest Burns

Police in Myanmar have rejected a lawsuit by monks who suffered phosphorus burns at the hands of officers when they protested against a controversial copper mine in 2012, a lawyer said Tuesday.

Two monks have been trying to sue the country's police chief and home minister after demonstrations against the China-backed Letpadaung mine near the central town of Monywa were violently suppressed by authorities.

30 Killed in Central Yemen Clashes

At least 30 people have been killed in clashes between pro- and anti-government forces in central Yemen, tribal sources said Tuesday.

The Shiite Huthi militia, backed by troops allied to former president Ali Abdullah Saleh, clashed with armed tribesmen in Baida province late Monday, the sources said, adding that nine tribesmen and 15 Huthi fighters were killed.

Afghans Protest at Lynching of Woman for Allegedly Burning Qoran

Hundreds of protesters shouting "Down with ignorance!" urged the Afghan government Tuesday to bring to justice the killers of a woman lynched by a mob for allegedly burning the Koran.

Farkhunda, 27, was beaten with sticks and stones, thrown from a roof and run over by a car outside a mosque in Kabul last Thursday. The mob then set her body ablaze and dumped it in the Kabul river while several police officers looked on.

Joint Security Force Begins to Deploy in Miyeh Miyeh

A 45-member Palestinian joint security force began deploying on Tuesday at the camp of Miyeh Miyeh in the southern city of Sidon as part of efforts by the Palestinian factions to increase security in shantytowns across Lebanon.

The decision by the Higher Palestinian Security Committee to scale up a security plan at the camps began last year camp when a 150-member force deployed in Ain el-Hilweh that lies near Sidon.

Mexico Nabs Suspected Zetas Cartel Figure Near Texas Border
