33 Syrian Gunmen Held, Arms Seized in Lebanese Border Town

The Lebanese army on Sunday arrested a group of Syrian gunmen who had entered Lebanese territory via the border town of al-Qaa, seizing a car and a large cache of weapons, Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported.

“After the crackdown on the Syrian town of Qusayr intensified, the Lebanese army managed to arrest 33 gunmen who had entered the Lebanese area of al-Qaa Projects and were on their way to Ablah,” in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley, Radio Voice of Lebanon (93.3) said.

Israel Offers to Send Aid via Red Cross to Syria

Israel has offered to send humanitarian aid to Syrian civilians affected by the regime's crackdown on protests through the International Committee of the Red Cross, the foreign ministry said on Sunday.

"Israel's foreign ministry has offered to transfer humanitarian aid to the people of Syria through the international Red Cross," the ministry said in a statement.

Fadel Shaker, a Lebanese pop star turned outspoken supporter of Salafism, an ultra-conservative branch of Sunni Islam, on Sunday stressed the “need” for artists to support the beleaguered Syrian people, urging them to “reject the massacres” taking place in Syria.

15 Dead in Syria as Regime Forces Bombard Rebel-held Rastan

Syrian artillery gunners pounded the mainly rebel-held city of Rastan on Sunday, as 15 people were killed across the country and the Red Cross began delivering aid to refugees from the battered Homs district of Baba Amr, monitors said.

The Local Coordination Committees, the main activist group spurring protests on the ground, said security forces killed seven people in the central province of Homs, three in the restive countryside around Damascus, one in the northern province of Aleppo, one in the central province of Hama, one in the southern province of Daraa and another in the eastern province of Deir al-Zour.

Red Cross Delivers Aid to Baba Amr Refugees

The international Red Cross said it delivered relief supplies on Sunday to refugees from the battered Baba Amr district of Homs city in a nearby village of central Syria.

"We have started to distribute humanitarian aid in Abel village, three kilometers (two miles) from Baba Amr," International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) spokesman Saleh Dabbakeh told AFP.

Report: U.S. Believes Iran Increasing Secret Aid to Syria

Iran is stepping up its military and intelligence support for Syrian government troops in their crackdown against opposition strongholds, The Washington Post reported late Saturday.

Bodies of Marie Colvin, Remi Ochlik Arrive in Paris

The bodies of American journalist Marie Colvin and French photographer Remi Ochlik, killed in the bombardment of a rebel flashpoint in Syria last week, were flown into Paris from Damascus Sunday.

Relatives of Ochlik, who was 28, were there to meet his coffin as the regular Air France flight, via Amman, touched down at Charles de Gaulle airport in the French capital, an airport source said.

177 Syrians were killed on Saturday, mostly civilians, including 6 defected soldiers in clashes between the regime army and the Free Syrian Army across the country.
