General Security Arrests 3 Lebanese Suspected of Recruiting IS Fighters

General Security has arrested in the past two days three Lebanese nationals tasked with recruiting gunmen to fight alongside the Islamic State extremist group, al-Akhbar newspaper reported on Wednesday.

The agency's Intelligence Branch arrested the three men in separate raids in northern Lebanon. One of them was apprehended in the area of al-Mankoubine north of Tripoli and another in the city's Bab al-Ramel neighborhood.

9 Palestinians Drown as Boat Sinks after Leaving Lebanon

Nine people, including women and children, were killed when a boat smuggling Palestinians from Lebanon's northern port of Tripoli sank in Turkey's territorial waters, one of the survivors said on Wednesday.

The state-run National News Agency said the survivor told his relatives that the boat was carrying 40 Palestinians from Syrian camps, mainly Yarmuk in Damascus, who had taken refuge in Palestinian shantytowns in northern Lebanon.

Suspect Admits to Court that al-Asir Moved between Sidon and Ain el-Hilweh

Wanted Islamist cleric Sheikh Ahmed al-Asir had moved occasionally between the southern city of Sidon and the Palestinian refugee camp of Ain el-Hilweh, a suspect admitted to court on Tuesday.

According to al-Akhbar daily published on Wednesday, Alaa al-Moghrabi known as Hatem told the military court that one time a wanted cleric transported al-Asir from the northern city of Tripoli to Sidon from where he took him to Ain el-Hilweh.
