A Turkish man convicted in absentia of plotting to overthrow the government at a high-profile trial earlier this month was arrested after escaping into Bulgaria, officials said Wednesday.

Levent Temiz, 38, was detained near the southeastern border town of Malko Tarnovo on August 8 after entering Bulgaria illegally, the interior ministry's chief of staff Svetlozar Lazarov told journalists.

Iran condemned what it called a "massacre" in Egypt as police moved on Wednesday to clear protests in Cairo by supporters of ousted president Mohammed Morsi, Fars news agency reported.

Taliban militants have kidnapped a female Afghan member of parliament, officials said Wednesday, in the latest example of prominent women being targeted in the country.

Spokesman for the Ministry Abbas Araghchi revealed that Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu had contacted his Iranian counterpart Ali Akbar Salehi to make the request to find the pilots.

The Turkish pilots kidnapped in Lebanon on Friday were abducted in a hope to exchange them with the nine Lebanese pilgrims held in Syria's Aazaz region, reported As Safir newspaper on Tuesday.

A widely-informed security source told the daily that Mohammed Saleh, a relative of the pilgrims who was arrested Sunday in connection to the pilots' case, revealed the names of individuals linked to the abduction

Grand Mufti Sheikh Mohammed Rashid Qabbani called for the release of all abductees inside Lebanon including the Turkish pilots, warning of the negative impacts on the country.

“All abductees, including the Turkish pilot and co-pilot, the Lebanese kidnapped in Syria's Aazaz and those kidnapped tit-for-tat should be released,” Qabbani said in a statement issued on Monday.

Turkey's closure of its cultural center and commercial office in Beirut was taken ahead of the kidnapping of the two pilots, Ankara's ambassador to Lebanon said on Monday.

The two pilots were kidnapped on Friday by a group demanding Turkey use its influence with Syria's rebels, who it backs, to secure the release of nine Lebanese pilgrims kidnapped in Syria in May 2012.
