In 2006, French Minister Bernard Kouchner visited Rabiyeh and asked the Caporal (the question he has been asking all other candidates): "Can you name one candidate who you prefer and who is not you?"
Guess what was the answer of the caporal? "Yes ME"

(1). My late grandfather used to tell me, bless the Lebanese leaders of independence from France, today my reply to him is, may they all be cursed forever for cutting us off from France. Today, after all the "cabbage" Lebanon has been going through, from Gemal Abdel Nasser's ultra stupid revolution, to Israel's use of Lebanon as a dumping place for the Palestinians, to the PLO's arrival, to Hafez Al Assad's greed and grip over our country, to two civil wars and a possible third one too, to Hezbollah's replacement of the ruthless Syrian occupier plus the PLO too, to its repeated usurpation of power, rubber stamped by Aoun the clown, to a state barely functional, I wish, wallahi I wish so much that we stayed under France.

what you think being a french vassal state would have been? imperialism is not charity phoenix, they use and abuse the people and plunder resources.
and look at palestine, it was a british protectorate until they sold them off to zionists. think france would have done better?

I agree that it is tempting to think that way. But times have changed and today's imperialism would not resemble the time of our grandfathers. We really need to grow up as a country and stop being adolescents. Work to build public institutions, hold our leaders accountable, put forward better leaders, and break the exploitative monopoly that a few political dynasties have on the country and its people. We need to see the birth of a civil rights movement in the country and awaken people from their blind tribal support for these barbaric "leaders" who exploit the country for their own good.

(2). The hell with what they call independence, it was nothing more than the independence of Lebanese feudal families, to be free to steal everything they laid their hands on without any let, hindrance, checks or balances. I know of some Lebanese Shiite people whose father served with the Legion Etrangere during WW2, they are long since French citizens, enjoying all the blessings and protection of being French and a citizen of the EU. I've also friends from Guadeloupe and Martinique, they too are French and enjoy life with no worries like we Lebanese have. What a damned mistake we Lebanese did, to leave France was a drastic and tragic mistake, we should have stayed a French territory and surely we lebanese would not need to go through all this hell.

(3). Now I know some bombastic people will barge in and talk to me about nationalism or patriotism, but I will tell them from now, don't bother yourselves, there's NO patriotism nor nationalism nor any pride or dignity attached to them, we Lebanese have only sectarianism in our minds and hearts, everyone trying to make of this country mini reflection of one sect or the other. For a long since, the Lebanese citizen is prey and prisoner of our politicians, all of them. We have no such thing as a Social Security nor real pension fund, most of us today can barely afford health insurance, schooling has become truly exorbitant, to make ends meet is a daily challenge now, our youths are leaving by the droves, we are invaded by refugees from all sides, our politicians are the worst ever on this globe.

wow the fake aounist flamethrower going so far in his defense of the Syrian regime blames israel for killing bashir rather than the qawmis did the killing for hafez assad, interesting.

So how can we change it? Seriously? What can be done by "ordinary" people to break the hold that this mafia has on the country? We can dream of an imperial "mother country" all day long but ts not going to happen - so what do we do??? How do we non-violently challenge the status quo? Is it futile?

(4). Whatever we may need, we must go and seek the WASTAH from some filthy politician sod, only the LAF is today keeping us from the abyss. Our Lebanese passport is barely fit for travel, possibly one of the worst to carry around. We carry stigmas from the sick old PLO terrorist image to that of Hezbollah's today. We seek jobs abroad like beggars do at the entrance of churches and mosques. Was independence any good? No, not to me, we would have been 100% better off staying with France. Is it too late now? Maybe not, if independence revolts yours guts like it does to me, then we could have some hope.

I would love one day to see a news report instead of saying "French Official in Lebanon in Early December to Discuss Presidential Elections" says " Lebanese Official in France to Discuss Presidential Elections". All of you bloody foreigners from the East or the West - just leave us alone!!!
