توفي رئيس حركة التجدد الديمقراطي النائب السابق نسيب لحود صباح اليوم الخميس بعد صراع طويل مع المرض عن عمر يناهز الـ68 عاماً.
ولحود من مواليد بلدة بعبدات في قضاء المتن عام 1944، متزوج من عبله فستق ولهما ولدان، سليم وجمانة. أكمل دراسته الثانوية في مدرسة سيدة الجمهور، ثم انتقل لدراسة الهندسة الكهربائية في المعهد العالي للهندسة في جامعة "لفبره" في بريطانيا التي تخرج منها عام 1968.
و في 13 ايلول 2007، أعلن لحود ترشيحه رسمياً لمنصب رئاسة الجمهورية في لقاء في مركز بيروت للمؤتمرات BIEL اذاع خلاله بيان الترشيح المستند الى نص جامع تحت عنوان "رؤية للجمهورية" يتضمن آرائه وموافقه من القضايا العامة المطروحة في لبنان.
عام 1990، عين سفيراً للبنان لدى الولايات المتحدة ، ثمّ نائباً عن المتن عام 1991 عملا باتفاق الطائف الذي نص على ملء الشواغر الى حين اجراء اول انتخابات نيابية. وعام 1992، انتخب لحود نائباً عن الدائرة نفسها. ثم أعيد انتخابه تباعاً عام 1996 وعام 2000.
وكان قد ساهم في إطلاق "لقاء البريستول" الذي جمع كافة القوى المعارضة من مختلف الاتجاهات الطائفية والفكرية والمناطقية في خريف العام 2004، وكان من أبرز وجوه "انتفاضة الاستقلال" التي اندلعت بعد اغتيال رئيس الحكومة الاسبق رفيق الحريري ورفاقه في 14 شباط 2005، والتي من ابرز تجلياتها تظاهرة يوم 14 آذار من العام 2005.ولحود من أبرز اركان "قوى 14 آذار".
وقد شارك لحود في تأسيس "لقاء قرنة شهوان" الذي اراد اعضاؤه ان يكون الترجمة السياسية للنداء التاريخي لمجلس المطارنة الموارنة في ايلول عام 2000.
وأسس لحود عام 1972 "شركة لحود للهندسة" التي تعنى بالتجهيز الصناعي والمنشآت الصناعية، والتي نفذت انشاء العديد من محطات توليد الطاقة ومصانع تحلية مياه البحر ومصانع الإسمنت والمنشآت البترولية، في انحاء عدة من منطقة الشرق الأوسط، ومنها دبي وأبو ظبي وقطر والبحرين، فضلاً عن مساهمتها في تنفيذ اجزاء من معملي الجية والذوق الحراريين في لبنان.
وستقام مراسم جنازة لحود ظهر السبت المقبل 4 شباط الحالي في كاتدرائية مار جرجس في وسط بيروت ويترأسها رئيس اساقفة بيروت للموارنة المطران بولس مطر، على أن ينقل جثمانه بعد ذلك الى مسقط رأسه بعبدات حيث سيوارى الثرى.
وتقبل التعازي يومي الاحد والاثنين في 5 و6 شباط الحالي في دارته في بعبدات، ويومي الثلاثاء والاربعاء 7و8 منه في منزله في الاشرفية.

Nassib Lahoud ... one of those that sold Lebanon to the Syrian by acting as the Lebanese ambassador @ the UN when Taëf was signed and supported by the UNSC.
Decent? Logical? Regretted? Not at all. Respected, maybe. But we do not have to forget also the dark side of that man

What a loss....He was one of the few decent and honest politicians in Lebanon.

I remember very well when Israel attacked Lebanon in 1996, and many flew from the south of Lebanon to Achrafieh. Mr. Lahoud and his wife were the first to jump and help the refugees who were staying at the public schools in Achrafieh...

Michel Aoun ... the man who sold Lebanon to the Syrian by opening the door to the Syrian Air force and then running away like a wet pussy when they invaded after promising his people and his men that he will die fighting, leaving his soldiers to die under Syrian tanks. To rub salt into the wound he stole millions of his soldiers pay and put them is European banks under his and his wife's name.
Decent? Truthful? Logical? Brave? Heroic? Honest? Loyal? Regretted? Not at all. Respected, are you kidding. Coward? Liar? Crazy? Corrupt? Traitor? Deserter? Failed? definitely, his legacy.

He was a good man who got stiffed good by his closest allies, the phonies, who now shed alligator tears on him and who he disowned. May his soul rest in peace. My sincere condolences to his widow and his children. May he rest in peace. We have indeed lost an honest and respected statesman. There aren;t too many of them defending this tiny land. It is also ironic that our actual politicians realized his great values after his death.As the french proverb says: Les bons s'en vont et les mauvais restent, namely Aoun, Bassil, Nasrallah, Iam wahab and the rest of this disfunctionnal clique.
What are the chances that our crooks of politicians will use his legacy to redress Lebanon and stop their specialty which is theft and corruption.. hummm I am dreaming huh guys... wow
