ISF Files Complaint against Rifaat Eid and Charbel Says His 'Terrorist' Statement Unlawful

Caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel on Saturday slammed the Arab Democratic Party Secretary-General's statement as "terrorist," warning that Rifaat Eid's comments are "punishable by law."

“Supporting the killing of others is a criminal takfiri act that is punishable by law,” Charbel warned in a released statement.

“We strongly condemn this kind of language that expresses a violent and irresponsible attitude.”

He added: “Eid's speech also puts civil peace at risk and gives way to mutual retaliations.”

Earlier on Saturday, Eid slammed the Internal Security Forces Intelligence Bureau as a “spy agency working against Lebanon's interests,” stressing also that the party's head Ali Eid will not go to the ISF's office for questioning.

“We will act only in accordance to the law,” he said, making a veiled threat that killing ISF members was permissible.

Rifaat Eid's televised speech came after First Military Investigation Judge Riyad Abu Ghida issued on Thursday a subpoena against Ali Eid.

Eid has been charged along with his driver Ahmed Ali with helping Ahmed Merhi, who is the suspected driver of the explosive-laden vehicle that blew up near al-Taqwa mosque in the northern city of Tripoli, to escape justice.

Charbel's statement assured that “Intelligence Bureau, its head and all its members are affiliated with the ISF and the Interior Ministry and take orders from them.”

“It does not, under any condition, work under any sectarian or partisan guidance,” Charbel assured.

“Facts have proven that the Intelligence Bureau serves all Lebanese without exceptions and has succeeded in dismantling many spying networks and uncovering terrorist plans that aimed at targeting innocent and safe citizens.”

Earlier in the evening, the ISF filed a report with judicial authorities against Rifaat Eid.

“The ISF General-Directorate filed a complained with the Public Prosecution, demanding the adoption of the necessary procedures against Eid that permitted the killing of Intelligence Bureau staff,” Future TV said.

LBCI television also confirmed the news in its evening newscast.

each day more m8 guys are caught red handed in terrorist acts against Lebanese, and still m8 supporters shy away from even condemning them!
isn't it time for m8 supporters to wake up and realize who their leaders are? or are they all supporting terrorism against Lebanese or even justifying them?
Charbel described it clearly: takfiri. is there a more explicit term? we all know who are the takfiris now and who is behind them.
we all know who are the extremist creating strife: iran.

Its always the fanatics, les fous de Dieu si tu vois ce que j'en veux dire. I even question their belief in God.

Thumb geha 10 November 2013, 09:07

that was a major mistake, that's where you can differenciate an original (Israel) from the copy (HA).

Its sad that a minister has to justify the work of the ISF in response to a thug.

Just like with Samaha's case, the ill intentions of the rulers over jabal mohsen, the dictatorial regime in Syria, and ultimately the Hezb occupying Lebanon are clearer than ever. Yet somehow a majority of their supporters still cling to the inhumanity of these groups. Is it because they are brainwashed? Or perhaps they don't have the humility to admit they were wrong for years on end? Or perhaps they know the truth and have simply lost their humanity. If it is not the latter, and I hope not, then now is the time to reach out to them with understanding and a message that we can move on and forgive the misjudgements of others. This is the only way to isolate the culprits and the enemies of the Lebanese people.

Both this eid and samaha are scum and they should feel the full force of the law but The difference between this and the samaha case is that samaha has been arrested. Is it because samaha is a Christian that he was allowed to be arrested?

it is a shame and disgrace in deed.

This is what happens when the February 14 Saudi-Wahabi coalition put a political cover on Assir and his massacre of the Lebanese Army soldiers. Now everybody else will to believe that they can attack Lebanese institutions without consequences.

Karim i wish you had kept your mouth shut , it would have been a lot smarter than what you just posted .

Thumb irus_da_virus 10 November 2013, 19:23

Yes the Saudi Wahabi coalition is the problem, they are the ones who invaded Beirut, they are the ones who launched the stupidity of 2006 that destroyed Lebanon and they are the ones who are participating in a war outside of our borders in direct contrast with the government line of disassociation. Man seriously i don't mind you defending M8 if you support them but at least try and be objective, just once can we try and be honest with ourselves.

All of M14 condemned Assir ; even the assir guy said that Hariri was againsy him.

Torture of Lebanese citizens should never be an excepted form of interrogation... It's amazing how one sided all these comments are. Why is there nothing mentioned about the revelations by Eid? Why have none of the authorities released memos announcing some kind of investigation. I personally condemn threats being made toward anyone why represents Lebanon. However, Eid mentioned names of at least 3 individuals that he claimed have admitted and confessed to smuggling Merhi to Syria.. I think a full investigation should be launched into the ISF actions of human torture as this is a repeated pattern previously practices of Youssef Diab..

Thumb LebCynic 10 November 2013, 07:39

Torturing people as an interrogation method has been proven ineffective... But if you want to fabricate a series of events then it would suit to torture.. As a Lebanese man I wish any agency that adopts torture methods of its citizens should be investigated and tried under the International Human Right Act..

Thumb eli-g 10 November 2013, 14:10

@ notorture, agreed. torture is bad. but why refuse to appear for questioning. I'll tell you why, because they know something about the bombing and they are protected by Syrian tanks.
