A delegation of March 14 officials stressed on Tuesday the need for the camp's representatives at the new cabinet to commit to the Baabda Declaration.

It said after holding talks with Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea: “The ministers should commit to national principles.”

The delegation included MPs Marwan Hamadeh, Fouad al-Saad, and Antoine al-Saad, and March 14 General Secretariat coordinator Fares Soaid.

Hamadeh added after the meeting: “This visit is aimed at emphasizing the principles of the March 14 alliance.”

“The government was formed in order to avert presidential vacuum, which may still occur because some sides are striving for it,” he noted.

Moreover, he hoped that the new cabinet's ministerial statement will include the agreements reached at the national dialogue, including those linked to the Baabda Declaration.

“This means that political decision-making power should be limited to the legislative authority in Lebanon,” explained Hamadeh.

The policy statement must not include the formula of the “army-people-resistance,” he stressed.

A ministerial committee was tasked by the new government on Tuesday to devise a policy statement.

The committee is expected to hold its first meeting on Wednesday.

The March 14 camp's insistence on including the Baabda Declaration in the statement and the March 8 camp's insistence to include the “army-people-resistance” formula are expected to be the main points of contention at the discussions.
