Mustaqbal: Draft Wage Scale a Blatant Violation of Constitution

Al-Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc noted Monday that the draft wage scale in its current form represents “a blatant violation of the constitution,” stressing that the pay raise must not have a “negative impact” on the financial situation in the country.

“Article 84 of the constitution allows the parliament and its committees to demand a decrease and not an increase in expenditure, as any increase requires a clear authorization from the government,” the bloc said in a statement issued after its weekly meeting.

“The increases and reimbursements must be realistic and calculated, in a manner that would not leave any negative impact on the financial situation in the country or the economic situation,” the bloc added.

The stance of the biggest bloc in parliament comes on the eve of a vote in the legislature over the controversial wage scale, which was approved by the joint parliamentary committees on Friday.

Al-Mustaqbal called for a “careful study of the draft law that would achieve the purpose without exhausting the the treasury,” urging “a series of binding economic and administrative reforms.”

Separately, the bloc hailed the unprecedented security plan that is being implemented in the Bekaa and Tripoli, but stressed that “Lebanon will not witness serious stability if Hizbullah does not withdraw from the ongoing fighting in Syria between the regime and its opponents.”

It also urged the party to abide by the Baabda Declaration and the self-dissociation policy, calling for resuming national dialogue over Hizbullah's arms and the country's defense strategy.

There were no reference to Constitution when Parliament voted for pay raises for its members with no worry about treasury!! It was enacted into law awfully quick. These Lebanese rulers use the Constitution as it suits, just as a bath towel.
Economically speaking; with a higher wage scale, the average family would have more disposable income which would enhance growth and vitalize the economy.
Obviously none of the parliamentarians had the average families in mind.

I agree... The key is disposable income will greatly increase ... People will spend and circulate their money in the economy ... I'm a supporter of M14 on many issues... But not blindly because this time These politicians like the M8 politicians are only interested in protecting their pocket ONLY ... Tfie!!!

... And anyways the matter is simple to solve give the increase in incremental instalments over the next 12 months... With retroactive instalments over the next 2 years...
This way inflation in SOME sectors will be mitigated...

as presented and as advised by the central bank, the cost of this new wage scale is as follows:
- it will translate into 15 to 20% increase in prices.
- the central bank will have no choice but to change the parity of the LB Lira against the US$ accordingly (i.e. a US$ will cost 1500 + 20% = 1800)
- this will again have an impact on the prices by at 40%
- and the cycle of inflation will start....

who does it profit to bring down our economy? hizbushaitan and Israel.

The pay increase must be made... I do agree that an instantaneous increase in wages will have a negative impact. But the increase gradually introduced of a time frame will NOT shock the system.

Thank God for Mustakbal who think for the country good while Berri only think of his partisan politics and is willing to bankrupt Lebanon to be re elected.
